The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 3 stars stating "Rather than performing with a small group, as he did on his best sessions, Laws is joined by strings and funky rhythm sections playing now-dated commercial grooves... The only reason to acquire this out of print LP is for Laws' still-superb flute playing". [2]

Don't Mess With Mister T. is a Stanley Turrentine album produced by Creed Taylor on his label, CTI. It was arranged by Bob James and recorded at Van Gelder Studio in June 1973.
