The Silents are a psychedelic rock band from Perth, Western Australia.
Lloyd Stowe and Jamie Terry began writing and recording songs in 2002, heavily influenced by early sixties psychedelic and beat music. They then began looking for a rhythm section with similar rock’n’roll influences, however with little success. In September 2003, Stowe watched friend Sam Ford’s band perform at a local Perth hotel and after the show asked if both he and drummer Alex Hayes would be interested in joining him and Terry to form a band. In early December 2003 the Silents recorded a three track demo.
The name 'The Silents' is taken from Simon and Garfunkel's haunting folk ballad, "The Sound of Silence". The name was also influenced by The Silence, the original name of Marc Bolan's band 'John’s Children', one of the first psychedelic bands in the UK. [1]
On 15 April 2006 their debut EP Flicker & Flames, recorded with Dave Parkin (Red Jezebel), was released with Rubber Records nationally, [2] with the lead single "Nightcrawl" receiving large amounts of airplay on Triple J [3] and alternative/community radio across Australia. They toured extensively with The Exploders in 2006, and appeared as the house band on Rove Live .
The Silents were also nominated 'Most Promising New Act' at the 2006 WAMi Awards.
In April 2007 The Silents signed to Ivy League Records following which they toured nationally with The Vines and the Red Riders. [4]
In May 2007 the band commenced recording new tracks for their debut album, which was mixed in Sunset Studios California by Doug Boehm (Starsailer, Guided by Voices, Sahara Hotnights). On 3 November 2007 the band released the first song from their debut album, "23", in the form of an EP. It has already received significant airplay on Triple J. [5] On 29 March 2008 the band released its debut album, Things to Learn .
In November 2008, Hayes was replaced by new drummer Mike Jelinek, Hayes went on to form a project named Hyla. The following year was a rather challenging one for the band, as they parted ways with the Ivy League label as well as their management, choosing to independently re-establish the sound of the band with the new lineup, as well as work on new material for their second LP. The album, entitled "Sun A Buzz", was recorded in an isolated part of the South West of Australia and in Blackbird Sound Studios in Perth in late 2009.
After the album was recorded, the band brought on board new management and embarked on a national tour with Tame Impala in May 2010.
Little Birdy was an Australian alternative rock band formed in Perth, Western Australia, in 2002 by singer and guitarist Katy Steele, drummer Matt Chequer, guitarist and keyboardist Simon Leach, and bass guitarist Scott O'Donoghue. They gained public attention when their single "Relapse" gained popularity on alternative radio stations such as Triple J, leading them to be signed by the record label Eleven: A Music Company. They released three studio albums, two EPs, and ten singles.

Spencer Tracy were an Australian rock band formed in 1999 in Collie, Western Australia. Founding mainstay members are Lee Jones on lead vocals and guitar, his brother Kim Jones on bass guitar and Shaun Sibbes on drums. They were joined by Jessica Bennett (ex-Lash) on co-lead vocals and guitar in 2002. After she left in the following year, John Rabjones joined on guitar to record the group's self-titled, debut album. They issued three extended plays, Corner of My Eye, Daisy Daze (October) and Hold On.

Heavy Weight Champ, sometimes written or seen as HWC, was an Australian heavy rock band from Perth formed in 1999. The founders were drummer Dean Miller, vocalist/lead guitarist Brad Alexander and vocalist/guitarist Grant McCullough, soon joined by bass guitarist Luke Copeland. The group released two extended plays, Two Triple Zero and Grey Filters and one studio album, Lo-Fi Funeral, before disbanding in 2008. The Fergusons were a five piece alternative rock band from Perth, Western Australia, formed in late 1999/early 2000 with members Al Nistelberger, Mike Bruce, Wayne Beadon (guitar), Grant Joyce (bass), and Matt Wheeler (drums). The band gained momentum after their debut gig in March 2000 and went on to release their first EP, "Hurting the Washing Machine," in June 2001, which received local chart success and airplay on Triple J. Notable achievements include winning WAMI awards, signing a deal with Australian independent record label Dew Process in 2003. Despite lineup changes, successful performances, and recording efforts for a debut album, financial constraints led to the severance of ties with Universal Records in 2004. The band officially disbanded in 2005 after playing a farewell gig. Post-split, members pursued other projects, with Nistelberger, Joyce, and Beadon forming the Bipolar Bears. A brief reunion for an acoustic performance occurred in 2007. The Fergusons' debut album, however, remained incomplete.

The EP was co-produced by Dave Parkin and the group. Its lead track and debut single, "Nightcrawl", received significant airplay across Triple J networks.

The Novocaines were a rock band based in Perth, Western Australia Briefly named The Howlin' Novocaines in 2007. They released their first two studio EPs, Ragdoll (2009) and Courtesy Eventually (2010), which were played by Australian radio station Triple J. They released their debut LP, Idle Time, in 2011.
