The World of Cars Online was a massively multiplayer online racing game based on the Cars film series. The game was under development with Open Beta, which launched on March 1, 2010. [1] There was a sneak peek of the World of Cars called the Test Track which started in October 2008 and ended in November 2009 to make way for Open Beta. [2] The site launched on June 29, 2010. Each car was given 2,010 coins, an Open Beta Participant Badge, and a Founder Badge. The game was closed down by Disney on February 8, 2012. [3] [4]

Gameplay

The World of Cars Online allowed users to customize their own cars, chat with other players, decorate their own yards, race against friends, and complete different quests with all of their favorite movie characters. There were also different mini-games to earn coins such as Mater's Tractor Tipping. [5] As users explored and played games, they earned badges such as a Tractor Tipping Badge. [6] The website also hinted that it might be possible to be other vehicles like trains and fire trucks.

Racing was a main component of the World of Cars Online. Besides racing for different quests against computer players, users were able to participate in multi-player racing against friends. Hazards were used to slow down other players behind you. Examples of Hazards would be an oil spill and a hay bale. Different Hazards were available to obtain from Sarge. [7]

Pirates of the Caribbean Online was a 3D massively multiplayer online role-playing video game based on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. It was developed and published by Disney Online, in conjunction with SilverTree Media, for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, with additional post-release content developed by Schell Games. The game was first announced by The Walt Disney Company in April 2005, and was originally meant to coincide with the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in 2006, but its release was pushed back multiple times. The game went through two beta testing phases during 2007, and was officially released in October of that year, utilizing the Panda3D game engine. Pirates of the Caribbean Online was closed on September 19, 2013.

Battle of the Immortals was a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by Perfect World Entertainment. Beta began on April 14, 2010, and is open to all users with a Perfect World account. On April 30, 2010, the closed beta ended and the open beta began on May 4, 2010. The Guardians of Fate was released on February 22, 2012. Battle of the Immortals takes place in Western Europe, where the player takes the role of a hero to help revive Odin. Besides, Battle of the Immortals is published by Joygame in Turkey since July, 2012. The closed Beta started on September 18, ended on October 11. The open beta which started on October 25 is still on. The game closed all its servers on January 8, 2018.

A social network game is a type of online game that is played through social networks or social media. They typically feature gamification systems with multiplayer gameplay mechanics. Social network games were originally implemented as browser games. As mobile gaming took off, the games moved to mobile as well. While they share many aspects of traditional video games, social network games often employ additional ones that make them distinct. Traditionally they are oriented to be social games and casual games.
