Tierra Design is a design studio headquartered in Singapore. The firm's main focus is landscape architecture.

History

Tierra Design was founded by Martin Palleros (Argentina), Natalie Gunewardene (Sri Lanka) and was joined by Franklin Po in 1995. Since 2001, the firm's principal registered architect and accredited landscape architect, Franklin Po has led the practice. Mr Po holds a master's degree in Architecture from the University of California Los Angeles and also a Bachelor in Biology from UCIrvine. [1]

Landscape Architectural Projects

Tierra has completed many landscape design projects around the world.

Completed in 2007, Changi Airport Terminal 3 interior landscape is one of the best known projects of Tierra, [2] and has been featured in several architecture magazines. [3] The green tapestry in this project is 14 meters high and 300 meters long. [4] The project won an Honor Award from American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).

In 2008, Tierra Design planned the landscaping for Banyan Tree hotel in Lijiang China, a 900-year-old UNESCO World Heritage site. [5]

At 158 Cecil Street, Singapore, in 2011, a seven-stories high indoor "green wall" vertical garden was designed. [6] [7] This work received several awards, including Skyrise Greenery Awards First Prize in 2011, and World Best Vertical Garden Design Gold Award in 2012. [8]

Michael Robert Van Valkenburgh is an American landscape architect and educator. He has worked on a wide variety of projects in the United States, Canada, Korea, and France, including public parks, college campuses, sculpture gardens, city courtyards, corporate landscapes, private gardens, and urban master plans.

Kathryn Gustafson is an American landscape architect. Her work includes the Gardens of the Imagination in Terrasson, France; a city square in Évry, France; and the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park, London. She has won awards and prizes including the Millennium Garden Design Competition. She is known for her ability to create sculptural forms, using earth, grass, stone and water.

Reflections at Keppel Bay in Singapore is luxury waterfront residential complex on approx 84,000 m² of land with 750m of shoreline. It was completed in 2011, offering 1129 units with a 99-year leasehold. The six distinctive curved glass towers afford panorama views of Mount Faber and Sentosa.

Orchard Central is a shopping mall in Singapore located along the main shopping belt at Orchard Road. It sits on the land previously occupied by an open air carpark and has a 160m frontage along Orchard Road. It was officially opened on 2 July 2009. In December 2016, Forbes recognized Orchard Central as one of the top five shopping malls in Singapore.

The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is an annual festival and awards ceremony, one of the most prestigious events dedicated to the architecture and development industries. The first four events were held in Barcelona, from 2008 to 2011, at which point the festival moved to Singapore for four years. Since 2016, host cities have included Berlin and Amsterdam. It is the only event where around 550 shortlisted architects present their projects live in crit rooms to a judging panel. One of these projects is awarded the World Building of the Year title. Each year the World Architecture Festival publishes a list of the winners of the awards on their official website.

Herbert Dreiseitl is a sculptor, artist, landscape architect and interdisciplinary urban planner. He founded the firm Atelier Dreiseitl in 1980 with a vision to develop liveable cities inspired by a deep understanding of water. In 2013, the studio was acquired by the Danish-based international consultancy group and continued under the name Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl. As of 2023, Dreiseitl's office is located in Überlingen, Germany, still a local affiliate of Ramboll. He has taught courses at the National University of Singapore and at Harvard University.

William B. Callaway, FASLA was an American landscape architect with SWA Group, recognized for his ability to design landscapes that are timeless. Peter Walker, designer of the World Trade Center Memorial and a long-time colleague, described Callaway as being "among the icons of post-World War II practice", developing his modern style by consistently staying true to the natural character of the landscape.

Marilyn Jordan Taylor is an American architect, who has been a partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill since the early 1980s and served as its first female chairman. She specializes in urban architectural projects and designed the master plan for the Manhattanville expansion, the Consolidated Edison East River Greenway as well as airports from the John F. Kennedy International Airport terminal 4 expansion to the SkyCity at the Hong Kong International Airport. Between 2008 and 2016, she served as the Dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Design.

Jewel Changi Airport is a nature-themed entertainment and retail complex surrounded by and linked to one of the passenger terminals of Changi Airport, Singapore. Its centrepiece is the world's tallest indoor waterfall, the Rain Vortex, that is surrounded by a terraced forest setting.

Cahaya Jauhar is a Government Linked Company in Johor, Malaysia. It is a special vehicle joint venture company between the State of Johor under state-owned Johor State Secretary Incorporation (JSSI) and the Malaysia Federal Government under government linked company, UEM Land Berhad to develop the new Johor State's administrative centre, which later known as Kota Iskandar and other government institutional building in Iskandar Puteri.
