Tim Joyce

Tim Joyce is an American meteorologist and newscaster on Chicago's WGN-TV. He was formerly at KCPQ in Seattle. [1] He also presented weather and traffic for the Portland, Oregon-based station KRCW (NW32) on the "Portland's Morning News" program, which is part of the nationally-broadcast "Eye Opener" morning program. [2] Previously, he worked at several other television stations, including nine years in the Eugene, Oregon, area and almost seven at the CBS affiliate KOIN, in Portland. Tim Joyce was one of the few openly gay television personalities on-air in the Pacific Northwest. [3]

Education

Joyce was born in Chicago. [3] He attended the University of Kansas, majoring in journalism [1] [4] and also working for campus radio station KJHK-FM while there. Later, while working in Eugene, Oregon, he studied meteorology at Mississippi State University, [1] earning a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology with advanced standing, [5] in 2003. [6]

Career

Joyce's first job on-air was at KTKA-TV in Topeka, Kansas. In 1995, Joyce moved to Eugene, Oregon, where he worked for KVAL-TV. In 2000, Joyce began working for KMTR-TV in neighboring Springfield. He co-hosted the morning show for the NBC affiliate which became the number-one morning show in the Eugene/Springfield area. [3] He worked as a meteorologist for Portland, Oregon, CBS affiliate KOIN from 2004 [5] until April 2011. [7] In November 2011, he began working at Portland station KRCW (NW32), on its then-new "Portland's Morning News" program. [2] [8] He has also worked for Seattle-based Northwest Cable News. [4] On June 19, 2021, WGN announced that Joyce will be starting on July 3, 2021, as the new weekend morning meteorologist he will be replacing Former WGN Meteorologist Mike Hamernik who died in March. <i>The Playhouse</i> (radio show) American radio program

The Playhouse was a Portland, Oregon-based syndicated morning drive time radio show that debuted on February 12, 2000. It originally aired weekday mornings between 5-10am on then-flagship radio station KXJM, with the last four hours of the show being broadcast live online with fully produced video, and repeated every four hours until the next show. The show was also on at various hours in the morning on its syndicated affiliates. From its conception on February 12, 2000 to May 12, 2008 the show's flagship station was the "Original" Jammin' 95.5 KXJM.

Keenan Smith is an American television broadcaster who is a reporter/anchor for the morning and noon newscasts at WXYZ-TV in Detroit, Michigan. Smith joined the network around September 2010 and served as the morning and noon meteorologist until March 2018. WXYZ-TV meteorologist Kevin Jeanes succeeded him with this role in the same time frame. Prior to his employment at WXYZ-TV, he was at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida, from 2008 to 2010 and WGN-TV and CLTV in Chicago, Illinois, before that.

Anne M. State is a former American television news anchor, currently weeknight anchor for KGTV, the ABC station in San Diego, California. State was formerly at KOIN-TV, the CBS affiliate in Portland, Oregon from July 2014 to April 2015, and was one of the two principal news anchors at WBBM-TV in Chicago from 2008 to 2010.

Ken Ackerman is an American television news anchor and reporter in Portland, Oregon. Born in Dover, New Jersey, Ken attended High School in Olympia, WA and would eventually settle in the Pacific Northwest. Upon graduation in 1983 from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in Sports Broadcast Journalism, Ken would begin his television career in California and then North Carolina where Ken was awarded several Associated Press awards with WITN-TV and WXII-TV in Winston-Salem. Ken made his way back to the Northwest in 1989 where he would spend the rest of his career as a fixture on Portland television beginning as a sports anchor/reporter on the NBC affiliate KGW. In 2003 he would journey across town to Fox affiliate KPTV, where Ken would go on to earn four NW emmy nominations and an RTNDA national news directors honor as a feature reporter. In 1996 Ken was chosen to become the first host of the FOX morning show Good Day Oregon. In 2003, ABC affiliate KATU hired Ken to host its morning show AM Northwest. Ackerman was also hired by Comcast as the studio host of Comcast Newsmakers interviewing state political and business leaders. In 2011, Ken became the lead anchor on KRCW's "Portland's Morning News", which aired as part of the nationally broadcast Eye Opener morning program. Ken retired from the media in 2015 and resides in Lake Oswego, OR.

Eye Opener is an American syndicated morning news program produced by Nexstar Media Group that premiered on May 9, 2011 and ended on June 21, 2017. The program utilized a local/national hybrid format billed as a "provocative and unpredictable" combination of general and political news, health, entertainment, technology and opinion segments, mixed with humor and variety elements; stations carrying the program are given the option to provide news, weather and traffic inserts focusing on their local market each half-hour. At the show's conclusion, it was hosted by Laila Muhammad, Oliver Tull, Neeha Curtis, Hilary Kennedy, Allyn Hoang, Courtenay DeHoff and Kevin Roth, who was also the show's meteorologist.
