Tishreen Park is the largest park in Damascus, Syria. [1] It is located near Umayyad Square and Tishreen Palace. [2] [3]

A large Syrian flag was installed in the park in July 2010 to mark the tenth anniversary of Bashar Al Assad becoming President. [4]

The park hosts the annual Damascus International Flower Show, which at its peak before the war would be visited by hundreds of thousands of people per year. [5] [6] [7]

Tishreen SC Syrian football club

Tishreen Sports Club is a Syrian professional football club based in Latakia. The club was founded in 1947 and currently competes in the Syrian Premier League. Its home ground is Al-Assad Stadium. Tishreen is the most successful and respected Syrian football club today, winning five league titles.

Hutteen SC Football club

Hutteen Sporting Club is a Syrian professional football club based in Latakia, Syria. The club was founded in 1945. The club's greatest achievement was winning the Syrian Cup in 2001. The club colours are blue and white. Their home stadium, Al-Assad Stadium, has a capacity of 28,000 spectators. The club is currently playing in Syrian Premier League.

Umayyad Square

Umayyad Square is a large and important square in Damascus, Syria. It connects the city center with several important highways and areas and contains various important buildings including but not limited to the Ministry of Defense, Syria's national Opera house and the headquarters of the Syrian Armed Forces.

On 6 January 2012, a bomb exploded in the Al-Midan district of Damascus, Syria. According to the Syrian government, a suicide bomber attacked buses carrying riot police shortly before an anti-government protest was to begin. It said that 26 people were killed and over 60 were injured. Most of the victims were civilians, though the Syrian government showed footage of what it claimed to be the funeral of 11 police officers killed in the attack.

Battle of Damascus (2012) During the Syrian civil war

The Battle of Damascus, also known as Operation Damascus Volcano, started on 15 July 2012 during the Syrian civil war. It is unclear who started the battle. Thousands of rebels infiltrated Damascus from the surrounding countryside. Following this, according to some reports, the opposition forces launched an operation to capture the capital, while according to other reports, the military learned of the large-scale rebel operation beforehand and made a preemptive strike. Some reports even suggested the rebels launched the operation prematurely due to their plans being discovered by the security forces.

Rif Dimashq offensive (November 2012–February 2013) Rebel offensive during the Syrian Civil War

The Rif Dimashq offensive refers to a rebel offensive during the Syrian Civil War in the Rif Dimashq Governorate which started in November 2012, and a subsequent attempted Syrian Army counterattack in January 2013. Thomson Reuters described rebels as "ramping up attacks on Damascus" in late November and BBC News described the 29 November government counterattack as "an unprecedented offensive against rebel-held districts in the east of the city".

Presidential Palace is the residence for the President of Syria, located in Damascus. It is located in the West of the city, on Mount Mezzeh North of Mezzeh neighborhood, next to Mount Qasioun and overlooks the city. The main building covers 31,500 square metres. The entire plateau of Mount Mezzeh is part of the palace premises and is surrounded by a security wall and guard watchtowers. In front of the building is a large fountain and the palace itself largely consists of empty rooms clad in Carrara marble.

Tishreen is one of the state-owned Arabic daily newspapers published in Syria. The daily is based in Damascus and has been in circulation since 1975. Tishreen was named after the Arab-Israeli war in October 1973.

Bahjat Suleiman, also known as Bahjat Sulayman, was a Syrian Ambassador to Jordan and head of the internal branch of the Syrian General Intelligence Directorate (GID), also known as Branch 251, in Syria. He was instrumental in the accession of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad to the presidency and was considered to be his confidante and mentor, and in his "inner circle."
