The athletics competition at the 2010 Commonwealth Games was held in New Delhi, India between 6 and 14 October. The track and field events took place between 6–12 October at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium while the marathon contests were held on a street course running through the city on 14 October.
Antigua and Barbuda competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. Despite concerns about safety and their accommodations, the team planned to compete. Antigua and Barbuda competed in athletics, cycling, shooting, swimming and boxing. The delegation was made up of seventeen athletes and nine officials.
Malaysia competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. Malaysia's team consisted of 203 athletes and 99 officials throughout the Games. Malaysia won 12 gold medals, surpassing the 10-gold medal target set by the National Sports Council, and finished in 7th position in the medal table.

Fiji competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow from 23 July to 3 August. This marks Fiji's return to the Commonwealth Games. The country was suspended from the Commonwealth of Nations in September 2009 following the 2006 military coup which brought Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to power. With elections due on 17 September to restore democracy after eight years of military-led rule, Fiji's suspension was lifted in March 2014. After missing the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the country was thus able to return in time for Glasgow however it came too late for them to enter a team in the rugby sevens tournament. The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee confirmed a delegation of twenty-six athletes in six sports.

Participating for the seventh time, Nauru, the smallest sovereign state in the Commonwealth of Nations, holds a "remarkable" record at the Commonwealth Games, having won twenty-eight medals during their first six participations, of which ten gold. Weightlifter Yukio Peter, Nauru's only gold medallist at the 2010 Games, did not defending his title in Glasgow, but Delhi weightlifting silver medallist Itte Detenamo was present.

The 2018 North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships was a regional track and field competition held at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Canada, from August 10–12, 2018. It was the third edition of a senior track and field championship for the NACAC region, held three years after the 2015 NACAC Championships. The winner of each event qualified for the 2019 Pan American Games competition, which was held in Lima, Peru.
