Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar was a free-to-play, cross-platform, online, action role-playing game developed by Mythic Entertainment and Escalation Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It was formally a part of the Ultima series. Information was previously released by BioWare in mid-2011 and more information was released on July 11, 2011. It was officially announced at the San Diego Comic-Con International on July 12, 2012 and it was fully released for iOS on August 7, 2013. [1] [2] The game was shut down on August 29, 2014. [3]

We took Ultima IV, with all of its ethical moral choice, which was innovative for its time, and updated it for the next generation.

The game was based upon Ultima IV , but was considered by Mythic to be an "action role-playing game". Ultima Forever included both online play with a group, as well as a single-player mode. Unlike Ultima IV, there was a Lady British character instead of Lord British. This was due to Richard Garriott retaining the trademark rights after he left Electronic Arts. Mythic emphasized that the Virtues from the Ultima series would play an important part.

Ultima Forever featured a top-down isometric point of view, with "hand-painted backgrounds and 3D characters." [5]

Development

On March 31, 2011, an image was leaked on to the internet, from a presentation being given by Paul Barnett. [6] The official Twitter account became active on April 4, 2011, and was discovered by the Ultima community at the end of May 2011. [7] [8] The official website was registered on March 17, 2010 [9] and went live on June 2, 2011. [10]

On June 11, 2012, Mythic Entertainment General Manager Eugene Evans revealed at the Develop Conference that a new free-to-play online was going to be announced on July 12, 2012. [11] Later that day, the official Facebook page became active, and the official website was updated to a new design, with a brief description of the game, and a link for Beta applicants. [12]

Paul Barnett revealed on Twitter that the game would be announced at San Diego Comic-Con International. [13]

Reception

Reception for the game ranged from mixed to negative. Most reviewers criticized the microtransaction system used.

Forbes gave it a 6 out of 10 rating. [14]

Touch Arcade gave it three out of five stars. [15]

Eurogamer gave it a rating of 2 out of 10, calling it 'a game built for idiots, a Cow Clicker with a beard'. [16]

<i>Dragon Age: Inquisition</i> 2014 video game

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a 2014 action role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. The third major game in the Dragon Age franchise, Inquisition is the sequel to Dragon Age II (2011). The story follows a player character known as the Inquisitor on a journey to settle the civil unrest in the continent of Thedas and close a mysterious tear in the sky called the "Breach", which is unleashing dangerous demons upon the world. Dragon Age: Inquisition's gameplay is similar to its predecessors, although it consists of several semi-open worlds for players to explore. Dragon Age Legends was a 2011 freemium Flash game developed by EA2D and published by Electronic Arts (EA) for Facebook and Google+. Set in the Dragon Age universe, Legends was developed as the successor to the 2009 Flash-based browser game Dragon Age Journeys and served as a tie-in to the 2011 main series game Dragon Age II. Alistair is a fictional character in Dragon Age, a role-playing video game series created by Canadian video game developer BioWare. He is introduced as one of many companions that can join the party of the player character in Dragon Age: Origins. Alistair is a Grey Warden who fought alongside The Warden against the Darkspawn to end the Fifth Blight. Alistair is eventually revealed to be the illegitimate child of King Maric, making him an heir to the throne of Ferelden. Dragon Age: Inquisition – Jaws of Hakkon is a downloadable content (DLC) pack developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts for the 2014 action role-playing video game Dragon Age: Inquisition. It was initially released for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows through Electronic Arts' digital distribution platform Origin, on March 24, 2015, and for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox 360 on May 26, 2015. The pack follows the Inquisition's exploration of the Frostback Basin, an overgrown wilderness area populated by Avvar barbarian tribes and the site of an ancient Tevinter fortress, to determine the fate of the last Inquisitor and the powerful dragon he hunted.
