Ulytau Region is a region of Kazakhstan. The administrative center of the region is the city of Jezkazgan. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced on 16 March 2022 that the region would be created. [4] The area split off from Karaganda Region when Tokayev's bill came into force on 8 June 2022. [4] [5] On 11 June 2022 Berik Bakhytovich Abdygaliev was appointed akim of the Ulytau region. [6] The region's borders roughly correspond to the western half of the old Jezkazgan Region which was liquidated in 1997 and merged with Karaganda Region.

Qyzylorda Region is a region of Kazakhstan. Its capital is the city of Qyzylorda, with a population of 234 736. The region itself has a population of 823 251. Other notable settlements include Aral, Kazaly (Kazalinsk) and the Russian-administered Baikonur, which services the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The total area of the province is 226,000 square kilometers (87,000 sq mi).

Satbayev, until 1990 Nikolsky, is a city in Kazakhstan's Ulytau Region. The city is named after Kanysh Satbayev, one of the founders of Soviet metallogeny, principal advocate and the first president of Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences. As of 2019, the city had a population of 69,782.

Aqmola Region is a centrally located region of Kazakhstan. It was known as Tselinograd Oblast during Soviet rule. Its capital is Kökşetau. The national capital, Astana, is enclosed by the region, but is politically separate from Aqmola Region. The region's population is 715,000; Kökşetau's is 157,000.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Kazakhstan was a part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached Kazakhstan on 13 March 2020 after two Kazakh citizens in Almaty returned from Germany. That same day, two more cases were confirmed, with one female arriving from Italy in Astana and the other from Germany in Almaty as well. Following the outbreak, on 15 March 2020, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared a state of emergency that was set to last until 15 April 2020. However, measures were prolonged in order to curb the transmission of the virus, leading to many notable holidays such as Nowruz and the Victory Day being cancelled. On 19 March 2020, a strict quarantine was placed on the cities of Astana and Almaty, where the most cases were occurring. On 30 March 2020, Atyrau and five cities in Karaganda Region went under a lockdown.

Askhat Qanatuly Aimagambetov is a Kazakh politician who's currently serving as a Member of the 8th Mäjilis and the Chairman of the Committee for Social and Cultural Development of the Mäjilis. He's mostly known for his work as the Minister of Education and Science of Kazakhstan from June 2019 to January 2023. On June 11, 2022 the ministry was split in two separate ones, and Aimağambetov lead the Ministry of Enlightenment until January 2023.

Erlan Jaqanūly Qoşanov is a Kazakh politician who is serving as the member and chairman of the Mäjilis since 2022. Prior to that, he served as the Aqorda Chief of Staff under Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's administration from 2019 to 2022, äkim of Karaganda Region from 2017 to 2019 and the head of the Prime Minister's Office from 2012 to 2017.

Incumbent president of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev originally announced his candidacy during the State of the Nation Address on 1 September 2022. From there, he also proposed a constitutional change regarding the presidential term office to be extended for a nonrenewable seven-year term. Tokayev was nominated for presidency by the People's Coalition on 6 October 2022, which consisted of several major pro-government political parties and public associations in support. He was officially registered as a candidate on 12 October by the Central Election Commission after garnering a total of 399,809 signatures.

Kunsulu Daltonqyzy Zakaryia is a Kazakh researcher in biological safety, Doctor of Biological Sciences, and from April 2023 the President of the Kazakh Academy of Sciences.

The Electoral district No. 28 is a single-mandate territorial constituency in Kazakhstan, represented in the lower chamber Mäjilis of the Parliament. It covers the entirety of Ulytau Region, including all its regional districts, with its seat being centered in Jezkazgan.
