History

In 2011, it was presented by the Iranian Ministry of Defence.

Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan (Iran's defence minister) and Flotilla Admiral Habibollah Sayyari (the Commander of the Iranian regular Navy) opened the production line on 13 October 2015. [3] In the opening ceremony, Dehghan stated that "the torpedo is capable of destroying various marine targets, including large vessels, in a few seconds." [4] [5]

In October 2015, Iran started mass-production of the Valfajr and has claimed that the weapon has now been upgraded with an anti-jamming system. [6]

Capacity

The torpedo carries an explosive warhead weighing between 220 and 300 kilograms capable of crippling naval targets in different weather and depth conditions. [7] [8]

A cruise missile is a guided missile used against terrestrial or naval targets that remains in the atmosphere and flies the major portion of its flight path at approximately constant speed. Cruise missiles are designed to deliver a large warhead over long distances with high precision. Modern cruise missiles are capable of travelling at high subsonic, supersonic, or hypersonic speeds, are self-navigating, and are able to fly on a non-ballistic, extremely low-altitude trajectory.

The Shahab-3 is a liquid-propelled medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) developed by Iran and based on the North Korean Nodong-1. The Shahab-3 has a range of 1,000 kilometres (620 mi); a MRBM variant can now reach 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi). It was tested from 1998 to 2003 and added to the military arsenal on 7 July 2003, with an official unveiling by Ayatollah Khamenei on July 20. With an accuracy of 140 m CEP, the Shahab-3 missile is primarily effective against large, soft targets. Given the Shahab-3’s payload capacity, it would likely be capable of delivering nuclear warheads. According to the IAEA, Iran in the early 2000s may have explored various fuzing, arming and firing systems to make the Shahab-3 more capable of reliably delivering a nuclear warhead.

Type 45 destroyer 2009 Royal Navy destroyer class

The Type 45 destroyer, also known as the D or Daring class, is a class of six guided-missile destroyers built for the United Kingdom's Royal Navy in the early 21st century. The class is primarily designed for anti-aircraft and anti-missile warfare and is built around the PAAMS air-defence system using the SAMPSON Active electronically scanned array (AESA) and the S1850M long-range radars. The first three destroyers were assembled by BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions from partially prefabricated "blocks" built at different shipyards; the remaining three were built by BAE Systems Maritime – Naval Ships. The first ship in the Daring class, HMS Daring, was launched on 1 February 2006 and commissioned on 23 July 2009.
