Hard rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music that began in the mid-1960s, with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. It is typified by a heavy use of aggressive vocals, distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and often accompanied with keyboards.
Van Halen is an American hard rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. Credited with "restoring hard rock to the forefront of the music scene", Van Halen is known for its energetic live shows and for the work of its acclaimed lead guitarist, Eddie Van Halen. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
That on all tours, the band's line-up has featured Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen. Michael Anthony has played bass on all tours through 2004. Since 2007 Eddie's son Wolfgang Van Halen has played bass for the band. The vocalist has changed numerous times, hence the inclusion of a vocalist column in the table. The vocalist column gives dates for the span they toured with the band for – not how long they were in the band for.

Alexander Arthur van Halen is a Dutch-American musician who is the drummer and co-founder of the hard rock band Van Halen. The band was formed in 1974 by Alex Van Halen; his younger brother, Eddie Van Halen; David Lee Roth; and Michael Anthony. Warner Brothers signed the band in 1977, and its debut album was released in 1978. Alex and Eddie Van Halen are the only members of Van Halen who have been in the band throughout its existence.
Michael Anthony Sobolewski is an American musician who is currently the bassist and backing vocalist for the rock supergroups Chickenfoot and the Circle. Anthony was previously the bassist and background vocalist for Van Halen from 1974 to 2006.

All tours undertaken by Van Halen went through the US, with the exception of the Monsters of Rock Tour 1984. Hawaiian dates have been counted as American, due to its official position as a state of the USA.
The Monsters of Rock Tour 1984 was a festival tour of Europe in 1984. The lineup for the then-annual Monsters of Rock festival in Donington, England took the festival out on tour. For a short portion of the tour, hard rock band Van Halen played on the bill as the brief European leg of their 1984 Tour supporting the album of the same name. It was the second portion of the tour after a large North American one and featured the final performances by David Lee Roth with the band until he rejoined in 2007. Raised tensions may explain why they left the bill before the tour's end.
The Heavyweight Champs Of Rock 'N Roll Tour of the US in 2002 was not a Van Halen tour. It was a co-headlining tour by the two former Van Halen vocalists David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar. The tour has a connection to Van Halen, featuring numerous guest appearances by Van Halen's then-bassist Michael Anthony with Hagar on many dates on bass and backing vocals (and occasionally lead vocals), and one date where former Van Halen vocalist Gary Cherone joined the pair for a duet. Nor are Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony's tours as The Other Half (a play on them being "half" of the Van Halen line-up) where the two former members of the band would play Hagar-era Van Halen tunes together with a backing band. 5150 is the seventh studio album by American hard rock band Van Halen, released on March 24, 1986 by Warner Bros. Records. It was the first of four albums to be recorded with lead singer Sammy Hagar, who replaced David Lee Roth. The album was named after Eddie Van Halen's home studio, 5150, in turn named after a California law enforcement term for a mentally disturbed person. The 5150 name has been used several times by Van Halen. The album hit number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, surpassing the band's previous album, 1984, which had peaked at number 2 behind Michael Jackson's Thriller album, on which Eddie Van Halen made a guest appearance.
Samuel Roy Hagar, also known as The Red Rocker, is an American rock vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, musician and entrepreneur. Hagar came to prominence in the 1970s with the hard rock band Montrose. He then launched a successful solo career, scoring an enduring hit in 1984 with "I Can't Drive 55". He enjoyed commercial success when he replaced David Lee Roth as the lead singer of Van Halen in 1985, but left in 1996. He returned to the band for a two-year reunion from 2003 to 2005. On March 12, 2007, Hagar was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen. His musical style primarily consists of hard rock and heavy metal.
OU812 is the eighth studio album by American hard rock band Van Halen, released in 1988, and the second to feature vocalist Sammy Hagar. Van Halen started work on the album in September 1987 and completed it in April 1988, just one month before its release.

The Best of Both Worlds is the second greatest hits album by American hard rock band Van Halen, released on July 20, 2004 on Warner Bros. The compilation features material recorded with lead vocalists David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, but omitting Gary Cherone's three-year tenure with the band. Prior to The Best of Both Worlds' release, Hagar reunited with Van Halen, and the band subsequently recorded three new tracks to include on the release.
Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve was a supergroup band featuring lead vocalist Sammy Hagar, lead guitarist Neal Schon, bassist Kenny Aaronson and drummer Michael Shrieve. The group reportedly rehearsed for less than a month before playing in concert. They released a semi-live album, recorded during two live performances at The Warfield in San Francisco, entitled Through the Fire. The album includes a cover of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale".
Live Without a Net is a live concert video of Van Halen recorded in New Haven, Connecticut in 1986, and released the following year. It was of their performance on August 27, 1986 at New Haven's Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The 90-minute release removed a few songs from the full performance. While the band attempted to record the previous night, audio problems prevented it from being used, although some video footage from that night would later surface in music videos. The concerts were part of the 5150 Tour, supporting the album of the same name, Van Halen's first with lead singer Sammy Hagar.

As one of the many well-known Monsters of Rock tours, the tour featured an impressive line-up, especially for a single-day event, and proved very popular.
