Vanity is a 1935 British comedy film directed by Adrian Brunel and starring Jane Cain, Percy Marmont and John Counsell. The plot concerns a conceited actress, convinced of the general adoration in which she is held, faking her own death in order to gratify herself by observing the depth of grief caused by her demise. However the actual reactions to the "news" prove to be far from what she had expected.
The film was a quota quickie production, made at Nettlefold Studios in Walton-on-Thames for distribution by Columbia Pictures. It was based on a play by Ernest Denny. It is now considered to be a lost film.
The film is the only known screen credit of Cain, who went on to achieve a degree of immortality in British culture after being chosen as "the girl with the golden voice", becoming the original voice of the speaking clock in the United Kingdom between 1936 and 1963.

Ethel Jane Cain was a British telephonist and the original voice of the speaking clock in the United Kingdom. She was appointed in 1936 following a "search for the Girl with the Golden Voice". Her voice was used from 1936 until 1963, when it was replaced by Pat Simmons. She also made a record for the GPO helping other staff improve their speaking voice and went on to become announcer for Henry Hall during one of his broadcast concerts. She was later offered a film part by Columbia Pictures under the name of Jane Cain.

Patricia Eileen Marmont was an American-born British actress in Hollywood films and on television, and a theatrical agent. Marmont's best known role was as the Trojan princess Andromache in the 1956 film Helen of Troy. She played Lady de Courcier in The Adventures of Robin Hood episode "The Miser" (1956). In 1961 she appeared in Danger Man in the episode "Name, Date, Place" as Rosemary.

The film is an adaptation of the 1882 play The Silver King by Henry Arthur Jones. It was made at Cricklewood Studios and Lime Grove Studios. The film was an ambitious production by the Welsh-Pearson company made at an estimated cost of around £60,000. However the company's decision to shoot it and other films that year as silents led to large financial losses due to the emergence of sound.
