History

Vinyl on Demand was founded in 2003 by Frank Maier. [2] Maier is a record collector and archivist whose focus has always been on early minimal synth, drone and industrial recordings of the late 1970s and early 1980s, particularly obscure cassette recordings. [3] Initially, Vinyl on Demand focused on German releases by artists such as Die Tödliche Doris, Hermann Kopp and Mutter. Over the years, its catalog has grown to feature recordings of other late 1970s and early 1980s by musicians such as John Duncan, Clair Obscur, Current 93, The Legendary Pink Dots, SPK, Nurse with Wound, Psychic TV, Asmus Tietchens, Conrad Schnitzler, Merzbow and Stratis. [4]

Initially, Vinyl on Demand's purpose was to re-release on vinyl many of the limited edition cassettes in Maier's collection, but as time passed the reissues became deluxe box sets with material from cassettes as well as unreleased material. [5] Early on, Vinyl on Demand began selling yearly subscriptions to collectors, often providing extras exclusively for subscribers. [6]

This is the discography of Apple Records, a record label formed by the Beatles in 1968. During its early years, the label enjoyed a fair degree of commercial success, most notably with Mary Hopkin and Badfinger, as well as discovering acts such as James Taylor and Billy Preston who would go on to greater success with other labels. However, by the mid-1970s, Apple had become little more than an outlet for the Beatles' solo recordings. After EMI's contract with the Beatles ended in 1976, the Apple label was finally wound up. The label was reactivated in the 1990s with many of the original Apple albums being reissued on compact disc, and the company now oversees new Beatles releases such as the Anthology and 1 albums as well as the 2009 Beatles remastering programme. In 2010, Apple set about remastering and reissuing its back catalogue for a second time.

Cultural Amnesia (CA) are an English post-punk music group, first active between 1979 and 1983 as participants in the so-called cassette culture of the late 1970s and early 1980s in the UK. During this first period the band released three cassette albums: Video Rideo (1981), The Uncle of the Boot (1983) and Sinclair's Luck (1983) on English and German record labels, and contributed to a number of compilation albums. Early on in his career, CA worked with the late Geff Rushton of Coil, who wrote a handful of songs for them and who was an important supporter and enabler due to his contacts as editor of Stabmental magazine, arranging most of their releases and providing constant encouragement. The band has become more widely known since 2000 following release of a number of compilations of their early '80s music in which the members of the group have been fully involved. Since the late '90s the band has also been occasionally active in the recording of new music and there have been a number of releases of new material since the early 2000s.

Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella 1979 studio album by Nurse With Wound

Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella is the debut album by British industrial music group Nurse With Wound, released on their own United Dairies label in 1979. An unusual record which blends noise and jamming, it is described by AllMusic as "one of the more glowing examples of late-70s industrial noise" and defunct UK music magazine Sounds summed up their response by abandoning their usual star rating system to award the album a full 5 question marks. FACT magazine ranked the album at #51 on their list of "The 100 best albums of the 1970s". The album's artwork includes the Nurse with Wound list, an insert which lists several dozen avant-garde, rock, krautrock and other "weird" recording artists who influenced the group. Further, the album's back cover bears the dedication: "This album is dedicated to LUIGI RUSSOLO." Russolo was himself a pioneering noise music artist of the early 20th century.
