Virginia Commission for the Arts

The Virginia Commission for the Arts (VCA), is the state agency that supports the arts through funding from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. [1] [2]

The Commission was created in 1968, is governed by 13 Commissioners appointed to five-year terms by the Governor [3] and confirmed by the General Assembly of Virginia. The Commission is led by an Executive Director, [4] [5] and Deputy Director, [6] [7] appointed by the Governor.

The Virginia Commission for the Arts is a member of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies, [8] and a State Partner with the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. [9]

The Virginia Commission for the Arts adopted its first-ever Cultural Equity Statement in 2018. [10] The Statement on Cultural Equity is as follows: "To support a full creative life for all, the Virginia Commission for the Arts commits to championing policies and practices of cultural equity that foster a just, inclusive, and equitable Commonwealth. [11] "

David Isaac, CBE is a British solicitor and Provost of Worcester College, Oxford, where he took office in July 2021. He was previously a partner at Pinsent Masons. Faye Z. Belgrave is a psychologist known for her research conducted for the benefit of the African American youth, specifically in the areas of substance abuse and HIV. She is currently a professor of Psychology and the founding director of the Center for Cultural Experiences in Prevention (CCEP) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Diversity, equity, and inclusion refers to organizational frameworks which seek to promote "the fair treatment and full participation of all people", particularly groups "who have historically been underrepresented or subject to discrimination" on the basis of identity or disability. These three notions together represent "three closely linked values" which organizations seek to institutionalize through DEI frameworks. Some frameworks, primarily in Britain, substitute the notion of "equity" with equality: equality, diversity, inclusion (EDI). Other variations include diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB), justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, or diversity, equity, inclusion and access.

The Virginia Retirement System is an independent state agency that administers pension plans, retirement savings plans, and other benefits to public employees in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of 2018, the agency ranks as the 14th largest public or private pension fund in the United States and is the 42nd largest retirement system in the world.
