Viva is a mobile network operator in the Dominican Republic.
Founded in 1883 as All America Cables & Radio Dominican Republic (an ITT subsidiary), the company was the country's first telecom to offer telegraph services to the Antilles.
In January 2000, Centennial Communications purchased 70% of the company, forming Centennial Dominicana. [1] The company later launched a CDMA2000 network and provided Internet services over EVDO.
On November 24, 2006 Centennial Communications announced that they were selling 100% of Centennial Dominicana to Trilogy International Partners for US$80M. [2] In April 2008, Centennial announced a rename to Viva and launched their GSM/GPRS/EDGE network. [3] At the end of 2015 the Telemicro group owned by the business man Juan Ramon Gomez Diaz acquired the operations of Trilogy Dominicana. In August 2017 Viva launched a new 4x4 MIMO 4G LTE network. Viva has focused on prepaid and hybrid plans. Postpaid plans are commonly not featured in mainstream media.

It was founded by the Behn brothers, Sosthenes and Hernan. Originally, Puerto Rico Telephone Company eventually spawned ITT Corporation, which was founded by Sosthenes Behn. PAWA Dominicana was the international flag carrier of the Dominican Republic. It was created as a subsidiary airline for Pan American Airways. This airline had scheduled flights between Santo Domingo and other Caribbean and US destinations. It was based at Santo Domingo-Las Americas.
The Air Force of the Dominican Republic or Fuerza Aérea de República Dominicana, is one of the three branches of the Military of the Dominican Republic, together with the Army and the Navy.
The Dominican Civil War took place between April 24, 1965, and September 3, 1965, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It started when civilian and military supporters of former President Juan Bosch overthrew acting President Donald Reid Cabral. The coup prompted General Elías Wessin y Wessin to organize elements of the military loyal to President Reid ("loyalists"), initiating an armed campaign against the so-called constitutionalist rebels. Allegations of foreign support for the rebels led to a United States intervention in the conflict, which later transformed into an Organization of American States occupation of the country. Elections were held in 1966, in the aftermath of which Joaquín Balaguer was elected into the presidential seat. Later in the same year, international troops departed from the country.

As other NANP members, the Dominican Republic uses country code 1, and has similar dialing procedures for dialing the ten-digit national telephone numbers, which consist of the area code, a three-digit central office code, and a four-digit line number. The three area codes of the country are organized as an overlay plan for a single numbering plan area (NPA), comprising the entire country. Thus ten-digit dialing is mandatory.

Altice Dominicana, S.A., formerly known as Tricom, is the second largest landline service provider in the Dominican Republic. It owns and operates a major HDTV Cable TV service along with landline and wireless voice services. Its ISP branch offers residential bandwidth with speeds up to 200 Mbit/s and is also a national mobile network operator.
White Dominicans are Dominicans of complete or predominant European descent. They represent 16.1% of the Dominican Republic's population, according to the last population census in which race was queried. The majority of white Dominicans are descendants from the first European settlers to arrive in Hispaniola and have ancestry of the Spanish and French who settled in the island during colonial times, as well as the Portuguese who settled in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is also known as High EfficiencyWi-Fi, for the overall improvements to Wi-Fi 6 clients under dense environments. It is designed to operate in license-exempt bands between 1 and 7.125 GHz, including the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands already in common use as well as the much wider 6 GHz band.
