Volt Denmark (Danish: Volt Danmark) is a social liberal political party in Denmark and the national chapter of the pan-European movement Volt Europa.
In order to combat cross-border crime, Volt supports a closer integration of Denmark into the Europol structures and criticises in an open letter the previous Danish policy, which instead relied on bilateral agreements with neighbouring states. By abolishing border controls and closer European cooperation of police authorities, freed resources should be used to better fight terrorism, illegal migration and international crime. [1]
The party supported the lifting of the defence opt-out in June 2022, cautioning against relying solely on the US for security, with reference to Donald Trump, and campaigned for more European cooperation and the development of a Danish vision for the European Union. [2]
Volt calls for the expansion of the European electricity grid to strengthen the exchange of renewable wind and solar energy. The party supported the inclusion of nuclear power in the EU's green taxonomy, but criticised the fact that fossil natural gas was also classified as sustainable and that European energy policy is oriented towards national interests. The party, on the other hand, sees the need for a common European strategy in moving away from fossil fuels. Denmark should lift the ban on building nuclear power plants on Danish soil and participate in research on modern nuclear technology. [3]
Danish shipping is to become climate neutral by 2030 and global influence in the shipping industry is to be used to advance the goals agreed at the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. To this end, public-private partnerships are to be formed to also reduce emissions in supply chains. [4]
To protect the rule of law, ensure that the government acts lawfully and that new laws do not violate the constitution, Volt calls for the establishment of a permanent, impartial judicial body modelled on Germany's Constitutional Court. [5]
The party supports the protests of women in Iran against the Iranian regime and for freedom and democracy. [6] [7]
The party is committed to targeting foreign workers to meet labour needs and drive the green transformation of the economy. To this end, cities should not only be made attractive places to live and work for international workers, but jobs should also be advertised on the pan-European job portal EURES. [8]
The party was formed in May 2018 and incorporated on 21 July 2018. [9] [10] Inna Hoogeland and Frederik Larsen are party leaders and Mathieu Pouletty is treasurer. In the run-up to the 2019 European elections, Volt failed to meet the signature hurdle and did not collect enough supporting signatures to be eligible for the election.
In November 2021, the party contested an election for the first time in the municipal elections in Frederiksberg. [11] It did not achieve a mandate. [12]
To qualify for national elections, which will take place in 2023 at the latest, the party needs 21,000 digital signatures. To participate in the European elections in 2024, the party needs to collect 71,000 digital signatures. [13]
In the course of the municipal elections, the party advocated a House of Democracy and citizens' dialogues and assemblies along the lines of deliberative democracy as described by the OECD, in order to address current challenges such as a mobility transition and the design of a new city district. [14] [15] The candidates deliberately talk a lot about visions and ideas for the EU, as much of the work of municipalities is determined by EU legislation and municipalities also increasingly work on an international level. [16] Volt therefore wants to strengthen the European dimension and the international network in Frederiksberg. [17] The party's goal is a green, socially responsible and future-oriented municipality. [18] Volt's candidate Mathieu Pouletty was the first time a Frenchman stood in the Danish municipal elections. [19] Volt received 0.2% of the vote. [20]

It was founded in 1989 with the merger of three Marxist parties and it is the furthest left-wing party in the Danish parliament, where it advocates for an expansion of welfare and social justice as well as socialist transformation in Denmark and internationally. During the 2021 Danish municipal elections the party placed first in the Danish capital Copenhagen, with 24.6% of the votes. The party is also active in various Danish trade unions.

The Danish Music Awards (DMA) is a Danish award show. The show has been arranged by IFPI since 1989, and was originally called IFPI-prisen ("IFPI-Award") until 1991, when it changed its name to Dansk Grammy. It was changed to its current name, Danish Music Awards in 2001, after the American Grammy Awards registered the name "Grammy" as their trademark. In 2011, IFPI joined together with TV2 and KODA to present the awards ceremony.
Copenhagen Municipality, also known in English as the Municipality of Copenhagen, located in the Capital Region of Denmark, is the largest of the four municipalities that constitute the City of Copenhagen, the other three being Dragør, Frederiksberg, and Tårnby. The Municipality of Copenhagen constitutes the historical city centre and the majority of its landmarks. It is the most populous in the country with a population of 655,304 inhabitants, and covers 86.4 square kilometres (33.4 sq mi) in area,. Copenhagen Municipality is located at the Zealand and Amager islands and totally surrounds Frederiksberg Municipality on all sides. The strait of Øresund lies to the east. The city of Copenhagen has grown far beyond the municipal boundaries from 1901, when Frederiksberg Municipality was made an enclave within Copenhagen Municipality. Frederiksberg has the largest population density of the municipalities of Denmark.

Morten Messerschmidt is a Danish politician and current leader of the Danish People's Party. He was a elected Member of the Folketing at the 2019 Danish general election having previously served from 2005 to 2009. At the 2014 European Parliament election, he was elected a Member of the European Parliament for Denmark with 465,758; the highest amount of personal votes ever cast at a Danish election.
Mette Frederiksen is a Danish politician who has served as Prime Minister of Denmark since June 2019, and Leader of the Social Democrats since June 2015. The second woman to hold either office, she is also the youngest prime minister in Danish history.
The Alternative is a green political party in Denmark. The party was publicly launched on 27 November 2013 by former Minister of Culture Uffe Elbæk and Josephine Fock; Elbæk had been a parliamentarian for the Social Liberal Party. Elbæk was the leader of the party until February 2020, where he stepped down and was succeeded by Fock. Currently the party is led by Franciska Rosenkilde. It collaborates with DiEM25 at the European level.

Volt Europa is a pro-European and European federalist political movement that also serves as the pan-European structure for subsidiary parties in several EU member states. Volt candidates stood on a common, pan-European manifesto in eight member states at the European Parliament elections in May 2019. The organisation follows a "pan-European approach" in many policy fields such as climate change, migration, economic inequality, international conflict, terrorism and the impact of the technological revolution on the labour market. The party endorses "evidence-based policy" and the sharing of best practice between EU member states.
Karen Melchior is a Danish lawyer and politician, formerly of the Danish Social Liberal Party, who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019.
General elections were held in the Kingdom of Denmark on 1 November 2022, except in the Faroe Islands, where they were held on 31 October as 1 November was a national day of mourning for victims at sea. Of the 179 members of the Folketing, 175 were elected in Denmark proper, two in the Faroes and two in Greenland. The elections were called on 5 October following an ultimatum to the government by the Social Liberal Party due to the outcome of a report on the 2020 Danish mink cull by the Mink Commission, which was critical of the government. Voter turnout was 84% in Denmark, 48% in Greenland, and 71% in the Faroes with a combined turnout of 84% for the Realm as a whole.
Ann Pernille Vermund Tvede is a Danish architect (MAA) and politician known for co-founding and being the leader of the national-conservative political party Nye Borgerlige from 2015 until 2023. She was previously affiliated with the Conservative People's Party. She is currently a member of the Folketing, having been elected in the 2019 and 2022 Danish general elections.

Søren Egge Rasmussen is a Danish politician, serving as a member of the Folketing for the Red–Green Alliance political party. He was elected at the 2015 Danish general election, and again re-elected in the 2022 Danish general election.
The Moderates is a liberal political party in Denmark founded by former Prime Minister and current Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen. He announced the name in a foundational speech on 5 June 2021. At the same time, he said that his main scenario was that the party would be formed after the 2021 Danish local elections. The Moderates' political position is referred to as centre to centre-right.
A referendum on the abolition of the defence opt-out, one of the country's opt-outs from the European Union, was held in Denmark on 1 June 2022. The referendum was announced on 6 March 2022 following a broad multi-party defence agreement reached during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The referendum resulted in the "Yes" side winning with approximately two-thirds of the vote.
Henrik Frandsen is a Danish politician serving as Member of the Folketing for the Moderates since the 2022 election. He was formerly mayor of Tønder Municipality.
