Wau Airport is a civilian airport that serves the city of Wau and surrounding communities. Feeder Airlines has three return flights a week between Khartoum-Wau-Juba. [1] [2] [3] Southern Star Airlines used to provide service on Wednesdays and Sundays to Juba; however, this service has been suspended in 2011 when the airline ceased flying. [4]

Location

Wau Airport ( IATA : WUU, ICAO : HSWW) is located in Wau County, Western Bahr el Ghazal, in the city of Wau. The airport is located to the northeast of the central business district of the city.

This location lies approximately 511 kilometres (318 mi), by air, northwest of Juba International Airport, the largest airport in South Sudan. [5] The geographic coordinates of Wau Airport are: 7° 72' 58.12"N, 27° 97' 31.00"E (Latitude: 7.7250; Longitude: 27.9800). This airport sits at an elevation of 433 metres (1,421 ft) above sea level. In December 2012, a new paved runway measuring 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) in length was opened.

Feeder Airlines was an airline based in Juba, South Sudan. It started operations on 2 June 2007 operating scheduled and charter services from Juba International Airport. The airline offered international flights to countries neighboring South Sudan, including Sudan and Uganda. After one of the aircraft operated by Feeder Airlines was written off after a runway excursion, the other aircraft used in Feeder Airlines was used to rename and make the brand new separate airline of South Supreme Airlines. One aircraft previously operated by Feeder Airlines is currently stored and another is not in use after damaging the aircraft in a 2012 accident. The company slogan was The Pride of South Sudan.

South Sudan does not have an extensive rail system. Current rail infrastructure, which was constructed between 1959–1962, and was left over from the previous Sudan government is in a serious state of disrepair. It consists of a 248 kilometers (154 mi) narrow-gauge, single-track line that connects Babonosa (Sudan) with the city of Wau in South Sudan. The line was left in poor condition after the Second Sudanese Civil War after several parts of it were mined; the line was fully rehabilitated with United Nations funds.
