Miramar is a city in southern Broward County,Florida,United States. It is a key suburb of the Miami metropolitan area,which was home to 6.14 million people in 2020. As of the 2020 census,the population was 134,721,making it the second-largest city in Broward County,the fourth-largest city in the Miami metro area,and the 11th-largest city in Florida.

Florida,a swing state,had a major recount dispute that took center stage in the election. The outcome of the 2000 United States presidential election was not known for more than a month after balloting because of the extended process of counting and recounting Florida's presidential ballots. State results tallied on election night gave 246 electoral votes to Republican nominee Texas Governor George W. Bush and 255 to Democratic nominee Vice President Al Gore,with New Mexico (5),Oregon (7),and Florida (25) too close to call that evening. Incumbent one-term Republican Senator Rick Scott was elected with 50.05% of the vote in 2018. He is running for re-election to a second term in office. Primary elections will take place on August 20,2024.
