Western India Regional Council, abbreviated as WIRC of ICAI is one of the five Regional Councils of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the largest among them. [1] It is located in Mumbai and serves a membership of more than 85000 Chartered Accountants and circa 225000 CA students, in a network of 32 branches [2] [3] in the three states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and two Union Territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

In all, WIRC has 32 branches, with the recent most Kalyan-Dombivli branch being formed on 17 January 2016. The main regional office of WIRC is located at Mumbai in Maharashtra.

Students' Council

The students' wing of WIRC is Western India Chartered Accountants Students Association (WICASA). The managing committee consists of 12 members who are Chartered Accountancy course students, pursuing their articleship. Apart from this Committee at regional level, there are separate WICASA Committees at Branch level which are again managed by Chartered Accountancy Students pursuing 'articleship' The Managing Committee at Branch level consists of 7 members. Dombivli is a suburban city located on the banks of Ulhas River in Thane district of Maharashtra, India. It is part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. One of the busiest railway stations of the Central Railway, Dombivli Railway Station is located here making Dombivli an important place. This city is a cultural hub and an economically developing city along with Kalyan. Dombivli-Kalyan have been declared as a satellite city to Mumbai and is also becoming a Smart City with rapid development. Dombivli along with Kalyan has one of the highest literacy rate of 93% in the state of Maharashtra.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Chartered accountant</span> Professional designation for accountants

Chartered accountants were the first accountants to form a professional accounting body, initially established in Scotland in 1854. The Edinburgh Society of Accountants (1854), the Glasgow Institute of Accountants and Actuaries (1854) and the Aberdeen Society of Accountants (1867) were each granted a royal charter almost from their inception. The title is an internationally recognised professional designation; the certified public accountant designation is generally equivalent to it. Women were able to become chartered accountants only following the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 after which, in 1920, Mary Harris Smith was recognised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and became the first woman chartered accountant in the world.

Kalyan-Dombivli is a twin city and it comes under Mumbai Metropolitan Region and it is a municipal corporation with its headquarters located in Kalyan in Thane district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It was formed in 1982 to administer the twin townships of Kalyan and Dombivli. Kalyan has a history of over 700 years. Kalyan is also a major Railway Junction for the trains operating in Central Railway.

Pimpri-Chinchwad also known as "PCMC", is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The city is about 15 km (9.3 mi) northwest of the historic city of Pune, at an altitude of 590 m (1,940 ft) above sea level. It is the fifth largest city in Maharashtra and the nineteenth largest city in India and the sixteenth largest satellite city in the world by population. Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is India's largest professional accounting body under the administrative control of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. It was established on 1 July 1949 as a statutory body under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 enacted by the Parliament for promotion, development and regulation of the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India.

The Institute of Financial Analysts of India (IFAI) was established in 1984 as a non-profit educational society in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The institution has been offering education to students across India through its various programs in the field of higher education. The institution was founded by N. J. Yasaswy, Besant C. Raj and Dr. Prasanna Chandra, the Director of Centre for Financial Management.

Jainism has been present in Maharashtra since ancient times. The famous Ellora Caves demonstrate that Jainism was part of a thriving religious culture in Maharashtra in premodern times.

Podar Education Network is a network of schools in India, managed by the Anandilal Podar Trust of Mumbai. The trust was established in 1927 by a Mumbai-based businessman Sheth Anandilal Podar. As of December 2014, the group had 116 schools across India. It was awarded the status of International Baccalaureate World School in 2005, and in 2011 was CIS certified.

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is the civic body that governs Pimpri-Chinchwad which includes Pimpri, Akurdi, Chinchwad, Nigdi, and the remainder of the northwestern city limits of Pune, India. It was established on 11 October 1982. It governs an area of 181 km2 with a population of 1.72 million. The executive power of the PCMC is vested in the Municipal Commissioner, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer appointed by the Government of Maharashtra. The position is held by Shekhar Singh (IAS) during the pandemic in late December 2020. The general body of the PCMC consists of 128 directly elected councilors, popularly known as "corporators", headed by a mayor. Rahul Jadhav (BJP) was elected as the mayor and Sachin Chinchwade (BJP) as the deputy mayor in August 2018. The PCMC headquarters is situated on the Old Pune Mumbai Highway alongside the freeway in the city of Pune.

CA. G. Ramaswamy is an Indian Chartered Accountant from Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore) and was the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the year 2011–12.

Shrikant Eknath Shinde is a member of the 17th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Kalyan constituency of Maharashtra and is a member of the Shiv Sena political party.

Muppala Sridhar is an Entrepreneur, Chartered Accountant and a Educationist. He is the founder and chairman of Tapasya College Of Commerce And Management and Tapasya group of Institutions. He is the member of the 25th council of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He has been conferred with Business Leader Award,2012 from the then chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri Kiran Kumar Reddy.
