A pub is an establishment licensed to serve alcoholic drinks for consumption on the premises. The term public house first appeared in the late 17th century, and was used to differentiate private houses from those which were, quite literally, open to the public as "alehouses", "taverns" and "inns". By Georgian times, it had become common parlance, although taverns, as a distinct establishment, had largely ceased to exist by the beginning of the 19th century. Today, pubs have no strict definition, but CAMRA states a pub has four characteristics:
- is open to the public without membership or residency
- serves draught beer or cider without requiring food be consumed
- has at least one indoor area not laid out for meals
- allows drinks to be bought at a bar
Herm is one of the Channel Islands and part of the Parish of St Peter Port in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It is located in the English Channel, north-west of France and south of England. It is 2.183 km (1.356 mi) long and under 873 metres (2,864 ft) wide; oriented north–south, with several stretches of sand along its northern coast. The much larger island of Guernsey lies to the west, Jersey lies to the south-east, and the smaller island of Jethou is just off the south-west coast.

Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons is a luxury hotel-restaurant in the village of Great Milton near Oxford, in Oxfordshire, England. It is located in a historic manor house near the church that was visited by Oliver Cromwell, which in March 2014 introduced a new brand name, Belmond. At this point the hotel changed its name to Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. In December 2018 Belmond was acquired by LVMH.
The Waterside Inn, located in Bray, Berkshire, England, was founded by the brothers Michel and Albert Roux after the success of Le Gavroche. It is currently run by Michel's son, Alain. The restaurant has three Michelin stars, and in 2010 it became the first restaurant outside France to retain all three stars for twenty-five years.
The Stagg Inn is a restaurant located in Titley, Herefordshire, England. As of 2015, the restaurant holds one star in the Michelin Guide. The Stagg was the first pub to be awarded a Michelin star in 2001.
San Domenico House is a boutique hotel in London, England. It is a small hotel with just 19 rooms, located just off Kings Road at 29-31 Draycott Place in Chelsea. It was previously known as the Sloane Hotel, until 2006, when it was situated at number 29. The hotel is part of the San Domenico Hotels group, owned by Aldo Melpignano, and is a sister hotel to the Borgo Egnazia.
Hazlitt's is a townhouse hotel located at 6 Frith Street, Soho, London, in very close proximity to Soho Theatre. The building is Georgian and dates back to 1718, four storeys, with typical long Georgian-bay windows painted in beige. Owned by Peter McKay and Douglas Blain, it is named after the essayist William Hazlitt who died in the house in 1830; he has a blue plaque on the wall to the left of the front door. Due to its heritage, the hotel is popular with writers, but also artists, ledges, actors and models. It was awarded the César Award for London Hotel of the Year by The Good Hotel Guide in 2002.
The Good Hotel Guide is an annual book publication, founded in 1977, listing and describing what they profess to be the finest hotels in Great Britain and Ireland. It also publishes a Continental Europe edition and a combined Great Britain and Western Europe guide book. The company has its headquarters in 50 Addison Avenue, London. The Daily Telegraph in 2006 said of The Good Hotel Guide: ‘The clear leader in recommending hotels of quality and character while not accepting payment for inclusion or free hospitality.’
The Feathers Hotel, The Bullring, Ludlow, Shropshire is an historic inn. Its imposing half-timbered frontage was constructed in 1619, over an earlier core, for a local lawyer, Rees Jones. John Newman describes the hotel as a "prodigy" of Tudor architecture and it is noted for its Jacobean furnishings. It is a Grade I listed building, listed on 15 April 1954, and is one of approximately 500 listed buildings in Ludlow, but one of its best known.
La Sablonnerie is a hotel and restaurant in Sark, in the Channel Islands. It is located in Little Sark, in an old 16th century farmhouse with gardens. Owned by Elizabeth Perree, the hotel contains 15 double rooms, 6 single rooms and one suite. The 2002 Good Hotel Guide describes the hotel as "Long, low and white-walled... a stylish, idiosyncratic little hotel, much admired." The restaurant is noted for its seafood dishes and cream teas.
La Fregate is a hotel in Saint Peter Port, Guernsey, overlooking Cambridge Park, near Saint Peter Port Harbour. The hotel, located in a historic 18th century manor house, contains 9 double rooms and 4 single rooms. The AA two rosette restaurant as of 2011 is headed by Neil Maginnis, and is noted for its seafood. The Telegraph notes that the hotel's Orangery is a rendezvous point for businessmen. La Fregate has a 4 Star AA hotel rating as of 2019.
The Montecito Inn is a boutique hotel in the southwestern part of Montecito, California. It is considered a Santa Barbara landmark. Located on Coast Village Road in Montecito, adjacent to U.S. Route 101, the inn is 2.5 blocks from Butterfly Beach. Pleistocene gravel deposits are evident nearby.
Durrants Hotel is located in George Street, London.
The Whitebrook, formerly known as The Crown at Whitebrook, is a restaurant with rooms in Whitebrook, 6 miles (9.7 km) south-south-east of Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales, near the River Wye and the border with England. The building is thought to date from the 17th century and by the 19th century it was used as a roadside inn. Its restaurant was run by Chef Patron James Sommerin until 2013; it gained a Michelin star in 2007. It contains eight double rooms and a 2-acre (0.81 ha) garden. On 7 March 2013, it closed because of financial difficulties; at the time it had the longest held Michelin star in Wales. Critics praised the food under Sommerin, but have criticised the difficulty in finding the restaurant. It re-opened in October 2013 under new chef and owner Chris Harrod, and regained the Michelin star in 2014. Harrod serves a menu using locally produced meat and vegetables along with foraged ingredients such as charlock, hedge bedstraw and pennywort.

Pennyghael is a small village in the Ross of Mull, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is located along the A849 road aligned along the coast line of Ross, on Loch Scridain in southwestern Mull, along the road to Bunessan. The Leidle River passes to the west of the village into the Loch.

The Angel Hotel is an AA 4-star Grade II listed hotel and inn at 15 Cross Street, in Abergavenny, Wales. It lies on the corner with Lower Castle Street and the main commercial street, Cross Street.
