The University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School is the law school of the University of Pennsylvania,a private Ivy League research university in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. Penn Carey Law offers the degrees of Juris Doctor (J.D.),Master of Laws (LL.M.),Master of Comparative Laws (LL.C.M.),Master in Law (M.L.),and Doctor of the Science of Law (S.J.D.).

It prohibits unequal application of voter registration requirements,racial segregation in schools and public accommodations,and employment discrimination. The act "remains one of the most significant legislative achievements in American history".
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a federal agency that was established via the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to administer and enforce civil rights laws against workplace discrimination. The EEOC investigates discrimination complaints based on an individual's race,color,national origin,religion,sex,age,disability,genetic information,and retaliation for participating in a discrimination complaint proceeding and/or opposing a discriminatory practice.
Donald Lee Hollowell was an American civil rights attorney during the Civil Rights Movement,in the state of Georgia. He successfully sued to integrate Atlanta's public schools,Georgia colleges,universities and public transit,freed Martin Luther King Jr. from prison,and mentored civil rights attorneys. The first black regional director of a federal agency,Hollowell is best remembered for his instrumental role in winning the desegregation of the University of Georgia in 1961. He is the subject of a 2010 documentary film,Donald L. Hollowell:Foot Soldier for Equal Justice.
Aloysius Leon Higginbotham Jr. was an American civil rights advocate,historian,presidential adviser,and federal court judge. From 1990 to 1991,he served as chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Originally nominated to the bench by President Kennedy in 1963,Higginbotham was the seventh African-American Article III judge appointed in the United States,and the first African-American United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He was elevated to the Third Circuit in 1977,serving as a federal judge for nearly 30 years in all. In 1995,President Bill Clinton awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Higginbotham used the name "Leon" informally.

Examples of legislation to foster it or to protect it from eroding include the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission,which was established by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to assist in the protection of United States employees from discrimination. The law was the first federal law designed to protect most US employees from employment discrimination based on that employee's race,color,religion,sex,or national origin.
Clifford Scott Green was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Green was the eighteenth African-American Article III judge appointed in the United States,and the second African-American judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. During his 36 years on the federal bench Judge Green presided over a number of notable cases,and was regarded as one of the most popular judges in the district.

Schnader Harrison Segal &Lewis LLP was a U.S. law firm based in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania,and founded in Philadelphia in 1935 by former Pennsylvania Attorney General William A. Schnader,Bernard G. Segal,a former Deputy Attorney General serving under Schnader,and Francis A. Lewis. The firm was initially named Schnader &Lewis. Eventually,Segal was added as a name partner. The fourth name partner,Earl G. Harrison,joined the firm in 1948. When the firm announced its closure it had roughly 90 attorneys in six offices nationwide. On August 3,2023,the firm announced it would dissolve and permanently cease operations.
Arlin Marvin Adams was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. As late as 2013 he served as counsel to Schnader Harrison Segal &Lewis LLP,and was listed as a NAFTA adjudicator.

He chaired the International League for Human Rights for twenty years,and was appointed the United States Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights from 1979 to 1980 by President Jimmy Carter. Shestack was regularly listed on the National Law Journal's list of the 100 most influential U.S. lawyers. He had multiple grandchildren the youngest being Andrew Justice Doss.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 is a United States federal law which amended Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to address employment discrimination against African Americans and other minorities. Specifically,it empowered the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to take enforcement action against individuals,employers,and labor unions which violated the employment provisions of the 1964 Act,and expanded the jurisdiction of the commission as well. It also required employers to make reasonable accommodation for the religious practices of employees.
Hobart T. Taylor Jr. was an American attorney and civil servant who was Special Legal Counsel and the Executive Vice Chairman of the President's Committee on Equal Employment Opportunities,the forerunner to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from 1961 to 1965. He was the first non-white person to direct the staff of a presidential commission. He is credited with coining the phrase "affirmative action". He was appointed Associate Special Counsel to the President in 1964,making him one of the highest-ranking African Americans in the U.S. government. He left the commission and the White House staff in 1965 to become a director of the Export–Import Bank of the United States,serving until 1968.
