World's Edge is an American video game developer and a studio of Xbox Game Studios based in Redmond, Washington. They were established in June 2019 to oversee the Age of Empires franchise. The studio works with external studios such as Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media and Relic Entertainment to bring back the franchise.

History

At E3 2019 Xbox announced that they are establishing a new internal studio which later named World's Edge. The studio was established in 2019 by Shannon Loftis to work on the Age of Empires franchise. [2] [3]

The studio's first title was Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition for which they partnered with Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media and Wicked Witch Software. They worked as an overseer to make sure the title was in the right direction.

Shannon Loftis, founder and head of the studio retired in 2022 and Michael Mann the executive producer of Age of Empires IV took her place. [4]

On the 25th anniversary of Age of Empires , World's Edge announced Xbox console ports of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires IV. Also announced was a remaster of Age of Mythology and the global version of Age of Empires Mobile. [5] [6] [7]

Age of Empires III is a real-time strategy video game developed by Microsoft Corporation's Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The Mac version was ported over and developed and published by Destineer's MacSoft. The PC version was released on October 18, 2005, in North America and November 4, 2005, in Europe, while the Mac version was released on November 21, 2006, in North America and September 29, 2006, in Europe. An N-Gage version of the game developed by Glu Mobile was released on April 28, 2009. It is the third game of the Age of Empires series and the sequel to Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings. It is the fourth installment of the Age of Empires series, and the first installment not developed by Ensemble Studios. The game was released on October 28, 2021 for Windows, and on August 22, 2023 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Dishonored is a series of action-adventure games developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The franchise started in 2012 with Dishonored. A sequel, Dishonored 2 was released in 2016. A standalone expansion to Dishonored 2, Death of the Outsider, was released in 2017. A follow-up which takes place in the same universe, Deathloop was released in 2021.

Forgotten Empires is an American video game developer based in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was founded by Bert Beeckman and Ryan Shepherd in 2013. It specializes in creating real-time strategy (RTS) games, particularly within the historical genre. Their contributions include the development of expansions and remastering of Age of Empires titles. In June 2022, Forgotten Empires was acquired by Keywords Studios.
