The Yakovlev EG (Eksperimentalnyi Gelikopter), also commonly known as the Yak-M11FR-1 and Sh (Shootka), was an experimental aircraft with coaxial rotors. The prototype was first flown by V.V. Tezavrovsky in December 1947.

Design and development

The fuselage of the EG was a welded steel tube truss with duralumin skinning on the fwd fuselage back to the rear of the engine compartment. The rear fuselage was fabric covered and supported a tailplane-style unit with twin endplate fins, as well as a tailskid. The Pilot and Passenger sat side by side under a glazed canopy with a car-style door on each side. [1]

The M-11FR engine was mounted behind the gearbox which it drove via a short shaft. The gearbox supported the Rotor pylon which had two, contra-rotating, co-axial, two-bladed rotors. A fixed tricycle undercarriage mounted on steel tube trusses supported the helicopter on the ground. [1]

Flight testing revealed vibration at forward speeds above 20–30 km/h (12–19 mph; 11–16 kn) In an effort to reduce vibration the tailplane and fins were removed. [1]

In early 1948 the M-11FR engine was replaced by a 190 hp (140 kW) M-12, which proved troublesome so an M-11FR was refitted to complete the flight trials by 8 July 1948. [1]

The Yakovlev Yak-15 was a first-generation Soviet turbojet fighter developed by the Yakovlev design bureau (OKB) immediately after World War II. The main fuselage was that of Yakovlev Yak-3 piston-engine fighter modified to mount a reverse-engineered German Junkers Jumo 004 engine. The Yak-15 and the Swedish Saab 21R were the only two jets to be successfully converted from piston-power to enter production. 280 aircraft were built in 1947. Although nominally a fighter, it was mainly used to qualify piston-engine-experienced pilots to fly jets.

The Yakovlev Yak-19 was a prototype Soviet fighter built in the late 1940s. It was the first Soviet aircraft to be equipped with an afterburning turbojet, the Klimov RD-10F that was derived from the German Jumo 004 engine. Only two examples were built as it was rejected for service by the Soviet Air Force.

The Yakovlev Yak-25 was a Soviet military aircraft, an early turbojet-powered fighter aircraft designed by the Yakovlev OKB. The designation was later reused for a different interceptor design. Tasked by the Council of Ministers in a directive issued on 11 March 1947, with producing a straight winged fighter similar to the earlier Yak-19, but powered by a Rolls-Royce Derwent V, OKB-115 swiftly produced the Yak-25, which blazed several trails as the first Soviet fighter with a fully pressurised cockpit, air conditioning, jettisonable canopy, and hydraulic airbrakes on the fuselage amongst other innovations.

The Yakovlev Yak-30 was an experimental Soviet interceptor from the late 1940s. Derived from the Yak-25, from which it differed primarily in having wings sweptback 35° at quarter chord, the Yak-30 retained the fuselage, tail surfaces and undercarriage of the earlier fighter.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bratukhin Omega</span> Type of aircraft

The Bratukhin Omega was an early Soviet helicopter, the first product of a new Soviet design bureau, OKB-3 that was created from within TsAGI specifically to develop rotary-wing aircraft. Bratukhin's design was a side-by-side twin rotor machine, with each rotor carried on a long outrigger truss. The Omega's rotors were each powered by a separate engine carried in a nacelle also at the end of the truss. Captive trials commenced in August 1941 and revealed severe problems with engine vibration and overheating. Before these could be addressed, however, OKB-3 was evacuated ahead of the German advance into the Soviet Union.

The Yakovlev Yak-20 was an experimental piston-engined trainer developed in the Soviet Union in 1949. It did not go into production.
