Bedminster Down School is a mixed gender secondary school with academy status, located in the Bishopsworth area of Bristol, England.
The school originally opened in 1955 as a comprehensive school but on 1 June 2012 the school officially became an academy. [1] Although the school initially planned on becoming an academy from September 2011, this was delayed. [2]
In 2010, the head teacher of ten years, Marius Frank, left the school to become CEO of ASDAN also based in Bristol. [3] The current head teacher is Louise Davies.
The school was part of The Malago Learning Partnership (MLP). MLP was a collaboration between Bedminster Down school, Cheddar Grove Primary, Greenfield Primary, Headley Park Primary, Parson Street Primary, Victoria Park Primary and St Peters CofE Primary. [4]
In 2003, the school was selected as one of four schools in Bristol to be completely rebuilt through the PFI programme. [5] Work began on the new school building in 2004, and the new school opened at Easter time 2006. [6]
The school has improved its results year on year and achieved its best ever GCSE scores in 2016, the table below shows the percentage of students hitting the key measure of 5 A*-C (9 - 4 from 2017 onward) including English and Mathematics over the last 5 years. [7]

Education in England is overseen by the Department for Education. Local government authorities are responsible for implementing policy for public education and state-funded schools at a local level. Parkside Community College is a secondary academy school with 600 places for children aged 11–16, situated in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Building Schools for the Future (BSF) was the name given to the British government's investment programme in secondary school buildings in England in the 2000s. Around half of the work was procured under the private finance initiative. The delivery of the programme was overseen by Partnerships for Schools (PfS), a non-departmental public body formed through a joint venture between the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), Partnerships UK and private sector partners. The programme was cancelled in 2010.

All Hallows' Catholic College is a Roman Catholic co-educational secondary school and sixth form in Macclesfield in Cheshire, England. The current principal is Mr. T Beesley. The school was renamed a college following designation as a specialist college for business and enterprise with ethics in 2006. The additional specialism of languages was added in 2010 and the college is now a faith school specialising in Business, Ethical Enterprise and Languages. All Hallows is a National Support School. It is also the National Teacher Effectiveness Enhancement Programme (TEEP) Champion Centre, and is a partner in three Teaching School Alliances.
LLAS was a staff development centre based at the University of Southampton which provided services to academic staff across the UK teaching Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies in higher education. Its first incarnation was as a subject centre of the Learning and Teaching Support Network (2000-2004), then a subject centre of the Higher Education Academy (2004-2011). Its second incarnation was as an enterprise unit of the University of Southampton.
