CSB Bank Limited (erstwhile Catholic Syrian Bank Limited) [2] is an Indian private sector bank with its headquarters at Thrissur, Kerala, India. The bank has a network of over 703 branches and more than 515 ATMs across India. [3] [4]

History

CSB was founded on 26 November 1920, [5] and opened for business on 1 January 1921 with an authorized capital of ₹ 5 lakhs and a paid-up capital of ₹ 45,270.[ citation needed ]

In 1969, it was included in the Second Schedule of the Reserve Bank of India Act and the Bank became a Scheduled Bank. The bank achieved Scheduled Bank – A Class, status by 1975.

In Dec 2016, RBI allowed Fairfax Financial Holdings to acquire 51% of the bank and in Feb 2018, Fairfax India (via FIH Mauritius Investments Ltd) acquired 51% of the bank for Rs.1180 Crores. [3]

The terms of investment include a mandatory 5-year lock-in period and 15 years to pare the stake in multiple tranches as per RBI's norms. [6]

As of March 2019, the bank had a significant presence in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka with a customer base of nearly 1.3 million people and its credit portfolio focused on agriculture, MSMEs, education, and housing.

The bank went public on Dec 4, 2019 and the shares are listed in BSE and NSE. [7]

The IDBI Bank Limited is a development finance institution under the ownership of Life Insurance Corporation of India and Government of India. It was established in 1964 as Industrial Development Bank of India, a development finance institution, which provided financial services to industrial sector. In 2005, the institution was merged with its commercial division, IDBI Bank, forming the present-day banking entity and was categorised as "other development finance institution" category. Later in March 2019, Government of India asked Life Insurance Corporation to infuse capital in the bank due to high NPA and capital adequacy issues and also asked LIC to manage the bank to meet the regulatory norms. Mar Joseph Kundukulam was the first metropolitan archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur, from 1970 to 1997. Kundukulam was succeeded by Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy. Kundukulam retired as archbishop in 1997 and died at Wamba, Kenya on 26 April 1998. His corpse was taken to Kerala by a special aircraft and was buried at Our Lady of Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral, Thrissur on 29 April 1998.

Gokulam Kerala Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Kozhikode, Kerala. Founded in 2017, the club competes in the I-League, the second tier of Indian football league system. They won the 2020–21 I-League title to become the first ever club from Kerala to do so, and became the first team to defend the league title in 2021–22. Gokulam is also the first and so far the only club from the state to qualify for a continental competition, AFC Cup, in 2022.
