The Chairman of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (abbreviated COGS) also known as the "Chief of the General Staff" is the chief and highest ranking officer of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces.

Contents

He usually holds the highest military rank within the Ministry of Defense. The current Chairman is Air Chief Marshal Fayyadh al-Ruwaili, who succeeded General Abdulrahman al-Bunian in February 2018. [1]

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) is, in principle, the highest-ranking and senior most uniformed military officer, typically at four-star rank, in the Pakistan Armed Forces who serves as a Principal Staff Officer and a chief military adviser to the civilian government led by elected Prime minister of Pakistan and his/her National Security Council. General Saleh Al-Muhaya, is the former Chief of the General Staff of the Saudi Arabian Army and the Vice-Commander of the Saudi Armed Forces. Beside the Field Marshal-Prince Khalid bin Sultan, Al-Muhaya led the Saudi Arabian Army in the Gulf War with the Allied Forces. He later commanded Saudi Forces during the Shia insurgency in Yemen before retiring in 2011.

Fayyadh bin Hamed bin Raqed Al Ruwaili is a Saudi Arabian pilot and general who has served as the commander of the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) on two occasions, most recently since a shakeup of the military high command on 26 February 2018 by King Salman. Before that he served as the commander of the RSAF from 10 May 2013 until 14 May 2014. In between that, from 2014 until his new re-appointment in 2018 as RSAF commander, time he served as the deputy chief of the Saudi general staff. Al Ruwaili hails from a merchant family near the Red Sea.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's General Staff Presidency is the general command of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, organized under the Ministry Of Defense. Its headquarters is located in Riyadh.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Al-Jawf offensive</span>

The Al Jawf offensive was a Houthi offensive that began in February 2020 with clashes in the Al Jawf Governorate during the Second Yemeni Civil War. Houthi forces were able to decisively capture the town of Al Hazm on 1 March 2020 from the Hadi government. On 27 April, the first phase of the offensive ended with the Houthis capturing 3,500 square kilometers of territory in Al Jawf Governorate. After reinforcing, the Houthis launched the second phase of their offensive on 27 May, making further advances toward the city of Marib and capturing the Maas military base on 20 November, 2020. The Houthis halted the offensive on 5 February 2021, in order to account for changes in the Saudi-led coalition and Southern Transitional Council. After reinforcing once more, the Houthis launched a new offensive towards Marib city on 7 February.
