Yogita Bhayana is a well-known anti-rape activist in India, who heads People Against Rape in India (PARI), an organization that seeks to support rape survivors and help them get justice for their assailants. [1] She has also founded and ran 200 homeless shelters in Delhi and landed support to rape survivors beginning anti-sexual violence efforts. She began a campaign "Nari Ke 2 Din" which seeks to create a special session of parliament on women’s issues.

Bhayana got her Master's degree in Disaster Management.

Early life

She has been a leading member of interviewing Anganwadi workers across Delhi NCR, expert committee on gender and education National Commission for Women, Rogi Kalyan Samiti Government of Delhi, and the Sexual Harassment Board of Delhi.

Witnessing a road accident and watching the apathy of the police and hospital staff first-hand led Bhayana to become a social activist. [2] [3] [4] Bhayana has been closely working on Rape cases. [5] [6] [7] Her protests were instrumental on the 2012 Delhi gang rape and murder case. [8] [9] [10]

Career as an activist

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India, many people from places far from Delhi were sent home with no treatment from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Bhayana stated, "Most of these patients have nowhere to stay or live... We found a group in which heart patients, cancer patients, and others with burn injuries were there. Many of them were not even able to walk. They are poor and also suffer from disabilities or problems." She organized for buses to take them home, and paid for the transportation out of pocket. [11]

Controversies

Delhi Police Notice

On 3 February 2021, Delhi Police sent a notice to Bhayana under IPC section 153, 153A. 505(1)(b) to appear before Police. [12] Responding to which, Bhayana accused the Delhi Police of suppressing her voice, and said her only crime was that she had been supporting the farmers protesting against three Central agricultural laws. [13]

Protest at Bihar CM office

On 2 April 2022, Bhayana along with a rape victim's father and uncle protested outside Nitish Kumar's, Bihar Chief Minister's office. [14] [15] A police officer (SI Rank) misbehaved with Bhayana stating "Now Bihar Police will tell, how ladies should live". [16] [17]

Because of her long legal fighting, all the four adult convicts were executed by hanging at Tihar Jail on 20 March 2020.

Maa Janaki Janmbhoomi Mandir or Punaura Dham is a proposed grand temple of princess Sita in Mithila at her birthplace. The site is located at the Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi district of Bihar in India. The site is considered as the appearance place from where Sita was found closed in a box from a farm field while the King Janaka was ploughing the farm field. Ramayana Research Council has proposed the construction of the world's tallest 251-feet statue of Mother Sita at Sitamarhi. There is a plan to build Janaki Dham in Sitamarhi on the lines of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. A grand campus known as Janaki Dham will be built on 57 acres of land near Punauradham. It is expected that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will laid the foundation stone of the Janaki Dham before upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024. The foundation stone of the Janaki Janmasthali Mandir was laid by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of Bihar on 13 December 2023 at Punauradham in Sitamarhi, the place of manifestation of Goddess Janaki.

Masood Asad Madani is an Indian politician and Deobandi leader who had served as a Minister of State in the ND Tiwari Ministry in Government of Uttarakhand from 2002 to 2007. He is the younger brother of former Rajya Sabha Member, Mahmood Madani and son of Asad Madani. He was a Member of the Indian National Congress.
