The 2024 season is the Washington Commanders' 93rd season in the National Football League. It is their second under owner Josh Harris and first under general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. [1] [2] Peters was previously the assistant general manager of the San Francisco 49ers for the prior three seasons; Quinn served as Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator in the same period. Additional changes to the coaching staff included the hiring former Texas Tech and Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator and Cowboys secondary coach Joe Whitt Jr. as defensive coordinator.
After trading quarterback Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks early in the offseason, the team selected LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, winner of the 2023 Heisman Trophy, second overall in the 2024 NFL draft.

The Washington Commanders are a professional American football team based in the Washington metropolitan area. The Commanders compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Commanders Field in Landover, Maryland; its headquarters and training facility are in Ashburn, Virginia. The team has played more than 1,300 games and is one of only seven in the NFL with more than 600 total wins. Washington was among the first NFL franchises with a fight song, "Hail to the Commanders", played by their marching band after every touchdown scored by the team at home. The Commanders are owned by a group managed by Josh Harris, who acquired the team from Daniel Snyder in 2023 for $6.05 billion.
Ronald Eugene Rivera is an American former football linebacker and coach who is currently is a football analyst with ESPN. He attended the University of California, Berkeley in the early 1980s, where he was recognized as an All-American linebacker for the Golden Bears. Following graduation, Rivera was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft and played nine seasons with them, including as a member of the 1985 team that won Super Bowl XX.
Richard Spielman is an American football executive. He was the general manager of the Miami Dolphins in 2004 and the Minnesota Vikings from 2012 to 2022. He formerly worked for ESPN on NFL Live.
Michael Zimmer is an American football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as head coach of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings from 2014 to 2021. Prior to that, Zimmer served as a defensive assistant for the Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, and Cincinnati Bengals. He also won Super Bowl XXX with the Cowboys in 1996.
Anthony Ray Lynn is an American football coach and former running back who is the run game coordinator and running backs coach for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He previously played in the NFL for six seasons, primarily with the Denver Broncos. Used in a reserve role, Lynn was a member of the Broncos teams that won Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII. He retired as a player in 2000 and entered coaching, later serving as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2017 to 2020.
Joe Whitt Jr. is an American football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He was previously a defensive backs coach for the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, and Dallas Cowboys.
A general manager (GM) in American football is a team executive who is typically the head of football operations, which includes leading the scouting department and being responsible for handling free agent transactions and contract negotiations with players and coaches. Under such a model, the GM reports directly to the owner or team president. However, some team owners serve as their own GM or employ one who act in a supporting role to the head coach. Al Davis of the Oakland Raiders was an example of an owner who also served as GM, while Bill Belichick is an example of a head coach having de facto GM responsibilities during his tenure with the New England Patriots.
Patrick Ryan Kerrigan is an American football coach and former player who is the assistant linebackers and pass rush specialist coach for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Purdue Boilermakers, earning unanimous All-American honors as a senior before being selected by Washington in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft.
Sharrif Kalil Floyd is an American football coach and former defensive tackle who is the assistant defensive line coach for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Florida, where he was recognized as an All-American in 2012. Floyd was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, playing his entire career there before retiring in 2017 following a number of injuries.
Daniel Patrick Quinn is an American football coach who is the head coach of the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). Born in New Jersey, he attended Salisbury University and competed in the hammer throw and as a defensive lineman for their football team in the early 1990s. Quinn later coached defensive lines in college prior to joining the NFL in 2001. He was the defensive coordinator of the Legion of Boom-era Seattle Seahawks that appeared in two consecutive Super Bowls, winning XLVIII.
Robert Michael Myers is an American former basketball executive who was the general manager for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2011 to 2023. During his tenure, he was twice named NBA Executive of the Year while leading the Warriors to four NBA championships. Myers is currently an NBA analyst for ESPN.
Shaquan Montez Sweat is an American football defensive end for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Michigan State, Copiah–Lincoln, and Mississippi State before being drafted by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. Sweat was traded to the Bears mid-way through the 2023 season.
The San Diego Fleet was a professional American football franchise based in San Diego, California, and one of the eight members of the Alliance of American Football (AAF). The league began play in February 2019, with the team playing its home games at SDCCU Stadium. They were coached by former NFL head coach Mike Martz. The team was one of the two professional football teams playing in San Diego, along with the San Diego Strike Force of the Indoor Football League, and the first since the former San Diego Chargers moved to Los Angeles in 2017.
The Arlington Renegades are a professional American football team based in Arlington, Texas. The Renegades compete in the United Football League (UFL). The team was founded as the Dallas Renegades by Vince McMahon's Alpha Entertainment and are owned-and-operated by Dwayne Johnson's Alpha Acquico and Fox Corporation. The Renegades play their home games at Choctaw Stadium. In 2023, The Renegades had a regular season record of 4-6 and were 2-0 in the playoffs, and were crowned XFL Champions. They were a part of the UFL merger in 2024, and started the 2024 season against the USFL Champion Birmingham Stallions.
The 2023 season was the Washington Commanders' 92nd season in the National Football League (NFL) and their fourth and final under head coach Ron Rivera. It was the first season under owner Josh Harris, who headed a group in the offseason that bought the franchise from Daniel Snyder for $6.05 billion.
The 2024 season will be the Miami Dolphins' upcoming 55th season in the National Football League, their 59th overall, their ninth under general manager Chris Grier and their third under head coach Mike McDaniel. They will attempt to improve on their 11–6 record from last year, make the playoffs for the third consecutive season, and end their 15-year AFC East title drought. They will also attempt to snap their 23-year playoff victory drought, which is the longest active drought in the NFL.
The 2024 Season will be the Dallas Cowboys' upcoming 65th season in the National Football League and their fifth under head coach Mike McCarthy. This will be the first season since 2020 that Dan Quinn will not be their defensive coordinator, as the Washington Commanders hired him to be their head coach. He was replaced in that role by former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, who returned to the Cowboys after eighteen years. The Cowboys will be attempting to improve upon their 12–5 record from the past three seasons, make the playoffs for the fourth straight year, and win the NFC East in back to back years, something the Cowboys have not done since 1993, and no NFC East team has done since the Eagles in 2004.
The 2024 season will be the Los Angeles Rams' upcoming 87th in the National Football League, their 88th overall, their 58th in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the fifth playing their home games at SoFi Stadium and their eighth under head coach Sean McVay. This will be their first season since 2013 without Aaron Donald, as he retired on March 15. The Rams will be searching to improve on their 10–7 record and to advance in the playoffs after being defeated in the Wild Card Round in 2023. In addition, the Rams will move their team training facility from Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks to the Kroenke Warner Center complex in Woodland Hills.
Frederick Adam Peters is an American football executive who is the general manager (GM) of the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). His NFL career began as a scout in 2003, spending six seasons with the New England Patriots and five with the Denver Broncos prior to directing the college scouting department for the latter in the mid-2010s, helping build a roster that won Super Bowl 50 in 2015.
