The construction of the mosque started in 1997. [1] It was then finished and opened in 2000 to become the only mosque on the island. [2]

The Islamic Center of Irvine (ICOI) is a mosque and Islamic community center founded by the local Muslim community in the city of Irvine, California on August 28, 2004. It is one of the largest Muslim congregations in California, with an estimated 2,500.0 worshipers attending weekly programs, and offers a variety of services from youth programs to senior workshops and interfaith sports activities. Mosque Maryam, also known as Muhammad Mosque #2 or Temple #2, is the headquarters of the Nation of Islam, located in Chicago, Illinois. It is at 7351 South Stony Island Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood. Louis Farrakhan's headquarters are not on the premises. The building was originally the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church before it relocated to suburban Palos Hills. The rites of both pilgrimages include circumambulating the Kaaba within the mosque. The Great Mosque includes other important significant sites, such as the Black Stone, the Zamzam Well, Maqam Ibrahim, and the hills of Safa and Marwa.

It dates back to pre-Islam era and used to be a fire-temple of Zoroastrians of Iran in the North, next to the Caspian Sea. After the acceptance of Islam by the people in the region, a mosque, known as Jameh Mosque, was constructed on the site of the temple. It is the first mosque built in the North of Iran.
