The Bavarian State Ballet (German : Bayerisches Staatsballett) is a professional ballet company in Munich, Germany. It was founded in 1988 by Konstanze Vernon as an independent company. [1] The ballet had previously been part of the Bayerische Staatsoper . In a broader sense, Bavarian State Ballet is sometimes used for the Bavarian State Opera Ballet before 1988. Vernon was the director of the independent company for the first 10 years, succeeded by Ivan Liška  [ de ]. From 2016 to 2022, Igor Zelensky was director of the ballet. [2] [3] [4] In 2022, Laurent Hilaire took over the ballet. [5] The company is formed by international dancers and has a repertory of more than 80 works from Romantic ballet to the 21st century. It is considered as a leading company in Europe.

Jörg Widmann is a German composer, conductor and clarinetist. In 2018, Widmann was the third most performed contemporary composer in the world. Formerly a clarinet and composition professor at the University of Music Freiburg, he is composition professor at the Barenboim–Said Akademie. His most important compositions are the two operas Babylon and Das Gesicht im Spiegel, an oratorio Arche, his string quartets and the concert overture Con brio. Widmann wrote musical tributes to Classical and Romantic composers. He was awarded the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art in 2018 and the Bach Prize of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in 2023. He is the brother of a German classical violinist Carolin Widmann.

Konstanze Vernon was a German ballet dancer, academic teacher and director of a ballet academy and a ballet company. She was from 1963 to 1981 prima ballerina of the ballet at the Bayerische Staatsoper. She taught at the Hochschule für Musik München and founded the ballet academy Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung in memory of her partner on stage Heinz Bosl. After retiring from the stage, she was founding director of the now independent ballet company Bayerisches Staatsballett.

Olga Bezsmertna is a Ukrainian operatic soprano based at the Vienna State Opera. She was engaged there after winning the Neue Stimmen competition in 2011, and soon performed leading roles such as Dvořák's Rusalka and Rachel in Halévy's La Juive.
