The Department of Human Settlements (formerly the Department of Housing) is the department under the Ministry of Human Settlements, of the South African government responsible for housing and urban development. Its primary purpose is the implementation of the constitutional mandate that "everyone has the right to have access to adequate housing." It works in co-operation with the provincial governments, each of which has its own Human Settlements department, and with the municipalities.

As of 2021 the Minister of Human Settlements is Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane and her deputy is Pamela Tshwete. In the 2011/12 budget the department had a budget of R22 578 000 000 and a staff complement of 609 civil servants. [1]

The N2 Gateway Housing Pilot Project is a large housebuilding project under construction in Cape Town, South Africa. It has been labelled by the national government's former Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu as "the biggest housing project ever undertaken by any Government." Even though it is a joint endeavour by the National Department of Housing, the provincial government of the Western Cape and the City of Cape Town, a private company, Thubelisha, has been outsourced to find contractors, manage, and implement the entire project. Thubelisha estimates that some 25,000 units will be constructed, about 70% of which will be allocated to shack-dwellers, and 30% to backyard dwellers on the municipal housing waiting lists. Delft, 40 km outside of Cape Town, is the main site of the Project.

Social Justice Coalition (South Africa)

For the past seven years, the Social Justice Coalition has worked to advance the constitutional rights to life, dignity, equality, freedom and safety for all people, but especially those living in informal settlements across South Africa. While these rights are protected and promoted by our constitution, people do not feel them in their every day lives. Founded in 2008, the SJC is a membership-based social movement made up of 12 branches, located mainly in informal settlements across Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Our campaigns are based on ongoing research, education, and advocacy and divided across two programmes. The Local Government Programme leads the work on sanitation, budgets, and urban land. The Safety and Justice Programme is focused on policing and the criminal justice system.

The commission served for 20 years, from 1999 until its dissolution by President Rodrigo Duterte in November 2019. United Kingdom government austerity programme Fiscal policy

The United Kingdom government austerity programme is a fiscal policy adopted in the early 21st century following the Great Recession. It is a deficit reduction programme consisting of sustained reductions in public spending and tax rises, intended to reduce the government budget deficit and the role of the welfare state in the United Kingdom. The Conservative government claimed that the National Health Service and education have been "ringfenced" and protected from direct spending cuts, but between 2010 and 2019 more than £30 billion in spending reductions have been made to welfare payments, housing subsidies and social services. The Department of Home and Confidential or Home Department serves as the ministry of the interior of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Responsible for the maintenance of law and order in the state of Uttar Pradesh, the department makes decisions regarding the peace of the state and enforcement of law and order and is responsible for the functioning of the state police. The department also prepares the state police's budget and—subject to the legislature's approval—releases funds. The department acts the cadre controlling authority of the Uttar Pradesh cadre of Indian Police Service (IPS) and Provincial Police Service (PPS). Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for the management of housing and related development in the Philippines. The department is led by the Secretary of Human Settlements and Urban Development, as appointed by the President of the Philippines and confirmed by the Commission on Appointments. The secretary would be assisted by three Undersecretaries and three Assistant Secretaries, that would be appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the Secretary.
