Barber Motorsports Park is an 880 acres (360 ha) racing facility in Birmingham, Alabama. It was built by George W. Barber, and includes the 230,000-square-foot (21,000 m2) Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum. It has been the site of the IndyCar Series' Grand Prix of Alabama since 2010. The Annual Barber Vintage Festival has taken place at the park each October since 2005. Barber Motorsports Park is also the home of the Porsche Track Experience.

He is a two-time overall winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona ; a winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring (1998); the Sports Racing Prototype driver champion of the Grand-American Road Racing Association (2002) and the winner of the 24 Hours of Spa. He was also the polesitter (1996) and a podium finisher at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The podium finish in 1999 was a third overall in the factory Audi R8R with co-drivers Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela. Theys' first appearance at Le Mans was in 1982, while his last start in the world's most famous endurance sports car race came 20 years later in 2002.

The race was won by the No. 54 Doran JE4-Pontiac entered by Bell Motorsports and driven by Terry Borcheller, Forest Barber, Andy Pilgrim, and Christian Fittipaldi, marking the first time that the Daytona Prototype class won the race overall. The GT class was won by the No. 44 Porsche 996 GT3-RS entered by Orbit Racing and driven by Mike Fitzgerald, Robin Liddell, Johnny Mowlem, Joe Policastro, and Joe Policastro Jr. The SGS class was won by the No. 93 Porsche 996 GT3 Cup entered by Doncaster Racing and driven by Jean-François Dumoulin, Marc Lieb, Robert Julien, and Greg Pootmans.
