Kingsbury Oil Terminal is an oil storage depot located to the northeast of the village of Kingsbury, Warwickshire, England. It was opened in the late 1960s and serves the Midlands region. It is the largest inland oil storage depot in the United Kingdom. [1] The main operators at the site are Essar, Warwickshire Oil Storage Limited and Valero Energy Corporation. [2] The site also has facilities from Shell and pipeline operations from the British Pipeline Agency. [3]

In August 2006 the terminal was targeted by terrorists as part of a terror plot involving several sites across the country. [4]

Protests

During protests by Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion in April 2022, more than 100 climate activists, ages ranging between 25 and 71, were arrested. [5]

On 14 September 2022, 51 Just Stop Oil protesters were arrested for breach of court order after blocking the entrance to the Kingsbury Oil Terminal. [6]

The Buncefield fire was a major fire at an oil storage facility that started at 06:01 UTC on Sunday 11 December 2005 at the Hertfordshire Oil Storage Terminal, located near the M1 motorway, Hemel Hempstead, in Hertfordshire, England. The terminal was the fifth largest oil-products storage depot in the United Kingdom, with a capacity of about 60 million Imperial gallons of fuel. The terminal is owned by Total UK Limited (60%) and Texaco (40%).

The United Kingdom petroleum pipeline network is principally made up of three pipelines systems: the former Government Pipeline and Storage System (GPSS) now the Exolum Pipeline System; the Esso pipelines, and the United Kingdom Oil Pipelines (UKOP) and associated pipelines. There are also several other lines including the Fina line built around 1990 that runs from North Lincolnshire to the Buncefield oil depot near Hemel Hempstead.
