The Talysh people or Talyshis, Talyshes, Talyshs, Talishis, Talishes, Talishs, Talesh are an Iranian ethnic group, with the majority residing in Azerbaijan and a minority in Iran. They are the indigenous people of the Talish, a region on the western shore of the Caspian Sea shared between Azerbaijan and Iran. The main city of the Talysh people and their homeland is Lankaran, the majority of the population of which is ethnically Talysh. They speak the Talysh language, one of the Northwestern Iranian languages. The majority of Talyshis are Shiite Muslims.

Novruzali Khanmammad oğlu Mammadov was an Azerbaijani philologist, journalist and activist of Talysh ethnicity. He was the founder and editor of the now-defunct newspaper Tolyshi Sado. Mammadov also worked at the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and headed a Talysh cultural center, which was closed after his imprisonment.
Shaykh Haydar or Sheikh Haydar was the successor of his father as leader of the Safavid order from 1460 to 1488. Haydar maintained the policies and political ambitions initiated by his father. Under Sheikh Haydar, the order became crystallized as a political movement with an increasingly extremist heterodox Twelver Shi'i coloring and Haydar was viewed as a divine figure by his followers. Shaykh Haydar was responsible for instructing his followers to adopt the scarlet headgear of 12 gores commemorating The Twelve Imams, which led to them being designated by the Turkish term Qizilbash "Red Head".

Abdal Beg Talish, also known as Dada Beg Talish, was a Qizilbash leader (emir) of Talysh origin, who served the Safaviyya order, and later the dynasty established by the order, the Safavid dynasty. The date of his death is unknown; he disappears from mention after 1513.
Khvajeh Mohammad Safavi was a son of Shaykh Junayd, leader of the Safavid order (1447–1460), born by a Circassian concubine. He was an older (half)-brother of Shaykh Haydar, the successor of Shaykh Junayd as leader of the Safavid order, and therefore an uncle of the founder of the Safavid dynasty, Ismail I. He had another brother named Khvajeh Jamshid, who was killed in southern Dagestan during one of Shaykh Haydar's campaigns. Khvajeh Mohammad's only surviving sister, Shah-Pasha Khatun, was married to Mohammad Beg Talish, a military chief from Khalkhal who would later become guardian (laleh) to Ismail I and play a pivotal role in his ascension to power in the early 16th century.

Mirza Mohammad Mihrani known as Mirza Mohammad Talish was an Iranian nobleman and prominent military commander of Talysh origin. He was a descendant of Mihranids and his ancestors were the hereditary governors of Astara. Mirza Mohammad was the governor of Astara, and later became the Safavid governor of Yazd. He was married to a sister of Sultan-Ali Beg Chākirlu, the Aq Qoyunlu governor of Ardabil.
Mohammad Beg Talish was a dignitary military commander of Talysh origin, who resided in Khalkhal and served the Safavid order. He married with Shah-Pasha Khatun when her father, Shaykh Junayd, was alive. Shah-Pasha Khatun was the only surviving sister of Shaykh Haydar (1459–1488). This marriage bring an alliance which helped the Safavid dynasty during the last phase of their struggle for power.
Shirali Akhundov was a Talysh public politician, revolutionary, deputy chairman of the Regional Council of the Mugan Soviet Republic and сhairman of the Lankaran district executive Committee.
