Mitchell Linn Hannahs (born September 16, 1967) is an American college baseball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Indiana State Sycamores baseball program. He was named to that position prior to the 2014 season. He previously served as president of Lincoln Trail College. He also was a member of the 1989 College Baseball All-America Team, selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Playing career

Hannahs was a standout second baseman for the Sycamores, helping them to 172 wins and three NCAA tournament appearances in his four seasons. He continues to rank highly in many offensive categories in the all-time Indiana State record book, including sixth in batting average, second in runs, and fourth in hits. In his senior season, Hannahs batted .428 with 101 hits and 76 runs en route to earning a place on the ABCA All-America Team. In 1988, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was named a league all-star. [5] He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 16th round of the 1989 MLB draft and played three seasons in the minors, reaching the class-AA El Paso Diablos. [1]

Coaching and administrative career

After ending his playing career, Hannahs twice served as an assistant at Indiana State, from 1995–1999 and again in 2001, before accepted the head coaching position at Lincoln Trail College. He served nine seasons in that capacity; claiming two Region 24 (NJCAA) titles and two Great Rivers Athletic Conference championships, accumulating a record of 108–96. He added athletic director to his duties. After the 2010 season, he was named President of Lincoln Trail College, and remained in that position until the summer of 2013, when he accepted the head coaching position at Indiana State [1] [3]

In August 2017 Hannahs signed a contract extension through the 2020 season. [6] On July 19, 2019, following a successful season and his 2nd NCAA Tourney berth; Hannahs inked a 2-year contract extension that will take him through the 2022 season. [7] [8] A contract clause, enables a contract extension if he leads the Sycamores to a NCAA tournament berth. On May 31, 2021, the Sycamores were selected for their 11th NCAA tournament.

Fredrick Kristian Hoiberg is an American college basketball coach and former player. He has served as the men's head basketball coach at the University of Nebraska since 2019. Hoiberg grew up in Ames, Iowa, and played college basketball at Iowa State University in Ames where he earned the nickname "The Mayor". He was drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) where, over his ten year career, he played for the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Minnesota Timberwolves. The Indiana State Sycamores are the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic teams of Indiana State University. Since the 1977–78 academic year, Indiana State has been a member of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The Indiana State football team has competed in Division I FCS since the 1982 season, and has been a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) since it was spun off from the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference (Gateway) when the latter league merged into the MVC in 1992. Past conference memberships include the Indiana College Athletic League (1895–1922), the Indiana Intercollegiate Conference (1922–1950), the Indiana Collegiate Conference (1950–1968) and the Midwestern Conference (1970–1972). The women's teams were Gateway members from the league's 1982 founding until its absorption by the MVC. In 1986, a year after the Gateway took on football as its only men's sport, the Sycamores football team joined that conference.

The 1978–79 Indiana State Sycamores men's basketball team is considered the greatest in the school's history. The Sycamores competed as members of the Missouri Valley Conference during the 1978–79 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, playing their home games at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. Led by first-year head coach Bill Hodges and National Player of the Year Larry Bird, Indiana State was unranked to begin the season, but swept through the regular season unbeaten. Bird led the number 1 ranked Sycamores to the national title game versus the Magic Johnson-led number 3 Michigan State Spartans, and ended the season as National runner-up with a record of 33–1. To date, the 1978–79 Sycamores are the only team to advance this far in their first-ever NCAA appearance. They had been the last unbeaten team to reach the national title game until Gonzaga in 2021.

The Indiana State Sycamores baseball team is the NCAA Division I baseball program of Indiana State University, located in Terre Haute, Indiana. It is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. The team last played in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship in 2023. Their first season was 1896. The Sycamores have had 12 All-Americans, 26 Major Leaguers, and more than 2,200 victories. The team's most successful season was in 1986, when the team appeared in the College World Series and finished with a record of 48–21. The Sycamores have appeared in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship in 1979, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1989, 1995, 2012, 2014, 2019, 2021, and 2023.

Mitch Gaspard is an American college baseball coach and former second baseman. He is the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Louisiana Tech University. Gaspard played college baseball at Louisiana State University from 1984 to 1985 before transferring to the University of Houston where he played from 1986 to 1987. He is the former head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team. Gaspard agreed to a 3-year contract on September 1, 2009, starting in 2010. The 2010 season was Gaspard's first season as the head coach of the Crimson Tide. He had been on the Alabama coaching staff for ten years, and was given the head coaching position when Jim Wells retired. He resigned from Alabama on May 30, 2016.

Duane M. Klueh is an American retired basketball player and coach. Born in Bottineau, North Dakota, he was raised in Terre Haute, Indiana and still lives there today; he was the head men's basketball coach at Indiana State University for 12 seasons (1955–1967). As a Head Coach, he remains the leader in wins. Klueh played professionally in the NBA from 1949 to 1951.

Gregory A. Lansing is a current special assistant to the head coach at Arizona State. An assistant and head coach at the high school and college levels since 1990, he was most recently the head men's basketball coach at Indiana State University from 2010 to 2021, having twice previously been an assistant coach at Indiana State.

The 1967–68 Indiana State Sycamores men's basketball team represented Indiana State University during the 1968 NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament. The Sycamores won 19 games in the regular season and were led by Jerry Newsom. He led the Sycamores to the national title game versus a George Tinsley-led Kentucky Wesleyan team, and ended the season as national runner-up with a record of 23–8.

The 1968 Indiana State Sycamores football team represented Indiana State University in the 1968 NCAA College Division football season. It was the third season of head coach Jerry Huntsman's tenure and his finest season as the head of the ISU program. It was the first nine-win season in the history of the program and remains only one of three such seasons. It is the winningest season in the history of the program with a .900 winning percentage.
