The New Zealand Schools rugby union team, commonly referred to as the New Zealand schoolboys rugby team, is composed of secondary school students in New Zealand.

Contents

In 1980 the New Zealand schoolboys rugby team had their first overseas tour, to Australia.

Many of the players have gone on to play for professional clubs or provinces or for the All Blacks or other international teams.

The competition begins as a knock-out competition until the top school in each of six regional zones is determined. These schools then contest a final held in Christchurch in December. The Gillette Cup was first played in 1990.

The Heartland XV is one of several New Zealand representative rugby union teams, although it is at a lower level than the All Blacks and the Māori All Blacks. The side is drawn exclusively from players for provincial unions that compete in the Heartland Championship, a nominally amateur domestic competition below the fully professional Mitre 10 Cup.

Blues RC (Invercargill) is an amateur rugby team that plays in the Premier Division of Southland Club Rugby. Founded in 1874, the club has a prestigious history, and it boasts 31 Galbraith Shield titles including a record period of eight in a row.

The National First XV Championship is the Premier Rugby Union competition for Secondary Schools/Colleges in New Zealand. Since 2016, the Top 4 tournament has been based at the Massey University Sport and Rugby Institute in Palmerston North. The New Zealand Schools' and New Zealand Barbarians Schools' teams are generally announced at the conclusion of the tournament, whereby a development camp will take place the following week at the Institute.

The 1982 New Zealand Māori rugby union tour of Wales and Spain was a series of matches played by the Māori All Blacks in Wales in October and November 1982. The Māori played nine games of which they won five, lost three and drew one. Six of the games were played against Welsh club or county sides while the one was played against the Wales national rugby union team. Wales did not award full international caps for the match. The Maori then played against a Spanish Presidents XV and finally the Spain national rugby union team.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jason Emery</span> New Zealand rugby union player

Jason Emery is a New Zealand rugby union player who represents the Sunwolves in Super Rugby, as well as for Manawatu in the Mitre 10 Cup. He also plays for Rugby New York (Ironworkers) in Major League Rugby (MLR) in the United States. His position of choice is centre.

Kenneth Tautohe Going was a New Zealand rugby union player. A full-back, Going represented North Auckland at a provincial level as well as the New Zealand Māori and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks.

Scott Crichton is a former New Zealand rugby union player. A prop, educated at Wanganui Boys' College, Whanganui. After transferring to the Capital he played club rugby for the Karori, Oriental-Rongotai, Athletic and Western Suburbs rugby football clubs in Wellington.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ralph Caulton</span> Rugby player (1937–2024)

Ralph Walter Caulton was a New Zealand rugby union player. A wing, Caulton played for the Poneke club and represented Wellington at a provincial level.

New Zealand standard school buildings were largely developed and built in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Following the Second World War, more schools and classrooms were needed to address the pre-existing shortage and to handle the increasing school population with the subsequent baby boom. Using standard designs allowed the demand to be met while reducing construction time and costs.

Augustine Joseph Leger is a New-Zealand born Tongan rugby union player. He played as centre.

The 1978 New Year Honours in New Zealand were appointments by Elizabeth II on the advice of the New Zealand government to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by New Zealanders. The awards celebrated the passing of 1977 and the beginning of 1978, and were announced on 31 December 1977.

John Ogilvie is a New Zealand cricketer. He played in ten List A matches for Central Districts from 1994 to 1996.
