Club Olimpia is a Paraguayan professional football club based in the city of Asunción. The club promotes the practice of various sports with most importance given to the football, rugby and basketball sides, the former being the highest priority and most successful. They were founded on July 25, 1902 by a group of young Paraguayans, and the name stems from the idea of its principal founding member, William Paats, a Dutchman based in Paraguay, who is considered the father of Paraguayan football for having introduced the practice of the sport in the South American country. Internationally, the club is referred to as Olimpia Asunción in order to distinguish itself from Latin American football clubs of the same name.
The Paraguay national rugby team is governed by the Paraguayan Rugby Union. They compete regularly in the South American Rugby Championship, but have yet to qualify for the Rugby World Cup.

Colombia made their debut against Mexico in 1996. The Chinese Taipei national rugby union team represents the Republic of China (Taiwan) in international rugby union. Chinese Taipei have yet to make their debut at the Rugby World Cup, but have attempted to qualify since Wales 1999.
The South American Rugby Championship refers to the continental rugby union championships for South America, organized by Sudamérica Rugby. The current name of the championships is South American Six Nations, implemented in 2018. Throughout history, South American Championships have also existed for lower divisions of the rugby union championships, as well as youth and women tournaments, and editions for rugby sevens.

The Sudamérica Rugby Women's Sevens, is the regional championship for women's international rugby sevens in South America. It has been contested since 2004. The tournament is held over two days, typically on a weekend. It is sanctioned and sponsored by Sudamérica Rugby.

The South American team won six of their tour matches, suffering only a single defeat to the South Africa national rugby union team. The South American team's 21-12 victory over South Africa in the second international was a major shock and described by Rothmans Rugby Yearbook as "a phenomenon of international rugby".
Super Rugby Americas (SRA) will be the new franchise rugby tournament format in Americas, and the first season will begin on February 18, 2023 after efforts by World Rugby. It will be organized and led by Sudamérica Rugby, the highest rugby entity in South America.
