Peter Schaufuss

Peter Schaufuss (born Copenhagen, Denmark, 1949) [1] is a Danish ballet dancer, director and choreographer.

Biography

He is the son of ballet dancers Frank Schaufuss (1921–1997) and Mona Vangsaae (1920–1983). [2]

Schaufuss trained at the Royal Danish Ballet School from age seven, and then joined the Royal Danish Ballet. [3]

He was artistic director of the English National Ballet 1984 to 1990, and Berlin Ballet from 1990 to 1994. From 1994 to 1995, he was artistic director of the Royal Danish Ballet. [3] In 1988 he founded English National Ballet School.

He was Knighted in Denmark for his services to the arts in 1988.

In 1997, he founded the Peter Schaufuss Ballet, based in Holstebro, Denmark. [3] [4]

Schaufuss owns Rose Theatre, The Basement Theatre and Saint Stephens in the Scottish capital Edinburgh.

Peter Martins Danish ballet dancer and choreographer (born 1946)

Peter Martins is a Danish ballet dancer and choreographer. Martins was a principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet and with the New York City Ballet, where he joined George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and John Taras as balletmaster in 1981. He retired from dancing in 1983, having achieved the rank of danseur noble, becoming Co-Ballet Master-In-Chief with Robbins. From 1990 until January 2018, he was solely responsible for artistic leadership of City Ballet.

In 1984 Peter Schaufuss became director and changed the name to English National Ballet and founded the school English National Ballet School, which is independent from the ballet company but joining the company premises in the new building. The Company regularly performs seasons at the London Coliseum and has been noted for specially staged performances at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2014 English National Ballet became an Associate Company of Sadler's Wells.

Mona Vangsaae Danish ballet dancer, choreographer and instructor

Mona Elly Hou Vangsaae was a Danish ballet dancer, choreographer and instructor. At the Royal Danish Theatre, thanks to her excellent technique and dramatic versatility she became a soloist in 1942, taking roles in Bournonville's productions and in works by the Danish choreographers Nini Theilade and Harald Lander. The roles of Julie in Frederick Ashton's Romeo and Juliet and Aili in Birgit Cullberg's The Moon Reindeer were created for her. After retiring from the stage in 1962, she became an instructor for Bournonville's ballets together with her son Peter Schaufuss.
