Y. Sherry Sheng is a horticulturalist, zoologist and philanthropist, who was given an Oregon Women of Achievement Award in 1990.
Sheng was born in Taipei, Taiwan, to Chinese parents. [1] She earned a BA in Zoology from National Taiwan University and an MA in Fisheries Biology from the University of Washington. [2]
She was Deputy Director for the Oregon Economic & Community Development Department. [2] She was Director of Oregon Zoo and Seattle Aquarium. [1] During her leadership at Oregon Zoo the African Savannah and African Rainforest exhibits were created. [3] In 2016 she joined the Board of Directors of the Center for Inquiry. [2]
In 2020 she and her husband Spike Wadsworth made a $503,000 endowment to Oregon State University in order to establish the Y. Sherry Sheng and Spike Wadsworth Master Gardener Professorship Fund. [4] In 2012 they also donated $1.2million as a gift to the Master Gardener Programme. [5] Sheng has been Clackamas County Master Gardener since at least 2012. [6]

Sheng Yen, born Zhang Baokang, was a Taiwanese Buddhist monk, religious scholar, and writer. He was one of the mainstream teachers of Chan Buddhism. He was a 57th generational dharma heir of Linji Yixuan in the Linji school and a third-generation dharma heir of Hsu Yun. In the Caodong lineage, Sheng Yen was a 52nd-generation Dharma heir of Dongshan Liangjie (807-869), and a direct Dharma heir of Dongchu (1908–1977).

In 2005, she became the first female movie studio head to place hand and foot prints at the Grauman's Chinese Theater. Valerie B. Ackerman is an American sports executive, former lawyer, and former basketball player. She is the current commissioner of the Big East Conference. She is best known for being the first president of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), serving from 1996 to 2005. Ackerman was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.
