'SUP Magazine, Inc. is an annual print publication and website that documents contemporary music culture.

History

'SUP was founded by Marisa Brickman in 1998 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The magazine re-located to New York City in 2000 [1] and now has staff around the world with offices in New York City and London. [2] 'SUP is distributed through Export Press in Los Angeles, New York City, London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, Oslo, Stockholm, Toronto, Tokyo and other cities. [2] through a network of bookshops and newsstands.

NYC's McNally Jackson said of the content "its editors and writers not only truly care about contemporary music, but have vibrant points of view on the subject worth reading" [3] and Opening Ceremony said, "Established as totally approachable and fulfilling, the magazine maintains the aesthetic of a cool casualness.". [4]

In 2004, 'SUP began working with NYC-based design agency An Art Service [5] who are responsible for the creative direction of the magazine.

'SUP has been featured and reviewed in music, style and trend publications. MagCulture featured 'SUP Magazine 20 as the magazine of the week [6] and 'SUP Magazine 22 as one of the best covers of 2010. [7] The 'SUP staff appeared in an article in Visionaire Magazine's Issue 37 as an indie publishing powerhouse, and has been reviewed on Coolhunting.com. [8]

'SUP has collaborated on projects with Nike, Diesel UK, Fox Searchlight, Agnès B & Bless. [9]

Jeffrey Cyphers Wright is an American lyric poet, writer and publisher. Wright graduated from West Virginia University before coming to New York. Beginning in 1976, Wright studied with Ted Berrigan and Alice Notley at St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery. He also studied with Allen Ginsberg at Brooklyn College and received an MFA in poetry from there.

It has become known for its focus on artistry, bringing contemporary classical music into the club setting, and offering a variety of set ups so that a seated classical performance can be followed by a standing set by a rock band or a DJ. Royal Flush is an American humor magazine founded by editor Josh Bernstein of The #Number Foundation in 1997. The magazine started as an outlet for pop artists and creative directors of other magazines. The New York City art scene has been publishing their collected works in Royal Flush for years. The magazine offers satire on many aspects of life and popular culture, rock music, and public figures.

Catherine Simon is an American portrait photographer and writer. She is known for her photographs of influential musicians, artists, and writers, including The Clash, Patti Smith, Madonna, Andy Warhol, and William S. Burroughs. One of her photographs of Bob Marley was used on the front cover of his 1978 album, Kaya.
