The Super League Greece 1, or Stoiximan Super League for sponsorship reasons, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced Alpha Ethniki at the top of the Greek football league system. The members of the cooperative are the Football Limited Companies (P.A.E.) that have the right to participate in the Super League 1 championship.
The 1988–89 Alpha Ethniki was the 53rd season of the highest football league of Greece. The season began on 11 September 1988 and ended on 21 May 1989. AEK Athens won their eighth Greek title and their first one in ten years. The championship was decided on the penultimate matchday in an informal final when AEK defeated the host Olympiakos at the Olympic Stadium by 1–0 with a goal by Takis Karagiozopoulos. This match, which essentially decided the title, was met by the very serious incidents between police forces and fans, with dozens injured, more than 7,000 seats broken and damages of 30 million drachmas.
The 1986–87 Alpha Ethniki was the 51st season of the highest football league of Greece. The season began on 7 September 1986 and ended on 7 June 1987. Olympiacos won their 25th Greek title and their first one in four years. The championship was marked by the strike declared by 12 teams in the last three games of the championship. As a result, most of the teams did not come to the last matches of the championship and were punished by deducting 6 points. The only ones who came and were not punished were Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, OFI and Panionios, which took the first four places in the standings.

It was carried out with a system similar to that of the previous season in which 14 teams participated again, 8 from the Central and 6 from North Greece, which were divided into groups. As in the previous year, in order to complete the championship, since it took a total of 30 matchdays, the teams that qualified for the national championship did not compete with each other again but transferred the mutual results of the local championships.

The clubs that participated were the champions from the 3 founding football associations of the HFF: Athens, Piraeus and Macedonia. Panathinaikos won the championship, due to a better goal ratio than Olympiacos. The point system was: Win: 3 points - Draw: 2 points - Loss: 1 point.

It was the last season in which the title of champion was to be claimed by the winning clubs from the three main football associations representing the major urban centers. It was also the last in which the final phase was held with the presence of only three teams, the champions of the above associations.

Alberto Nahmias was a Greek football player and athlete of Romaniote Jewish descent who played for G.S. Iraklis Thessaloniki. He was one of the most prominent of Greece's football team players of the 1920s and an irreplaceable member of Iraklis F.C. and the newly established Greece national football team.
