The 1938–39 season was Newport County's 17th season in the Football League Third Division South and 18th overall in the Football League. They had been ever-present in the third tier except for the 1931–32 season since the introduction of the Football League Third Division in 1920.
The 1937–38 season was Newport County's 16th season in the Third Division South and 17th overall in the Football League. They had been ever-present in the third tier except for the 1931–32 season since the introduction of the Football League Third Division in 1920.
The 1972–73 season was Newport County's 11th consecutive season in the Football League Fourth Division since relegation at the end of the 1961–62 season and their 45th overall in the Football League. County missed out on promotion by the narrowest of margins: their goal average of 1.46 being inferior to that of Aldershot's 1.58 – both teams having finished level on points.
The 1957–58 season was Newport County's 30th season in the Football League and the last season in the Third Division South before the regional third divisions were consolidated into new Third and Fourth Divisions. County's 11th-place finish qualified them for next season's Third Division.
The 1930–31 season was Newport County's 11th season in the Football League. The club finished in 21st place and were not re-elected for the following season.

Despite the eventual lowly 16th-place finish, this season was a much-improved performance over the previous season's relegation battle. The club was actually in third place with promotion looking likely with ten games to go, but those games yielded a mere three points and County missed out again on a return to the Third Division.
The 1976–77 season was Newport County's 15th consecutive season in the Football League Fourth Division and their 49th season overall in the Football League. The season became known as the "Great Escape" as County were entrenched in the re-election places until the very last game of the season and would almost certainly have been voted out of the league had they finished there.
The 1968–69 season was Newport County's seventh consecutive season in the Football League Fourth Division since relegation at the end of the 1961–62 season and their 41st overall in the Football League. They finished in the re-election places, but were re-elected.
