American football, referred to as football in the United States and Canada and also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, which is the team controlling the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with or passing the ball, while the defense, which is the team without control of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and aims to take control of the ball for themselves. Elmer A. Lampe American college football coach, college basketball coach

Elmer Andrew Lampe was a basketball coach and American football player and coach. Lampe was the head basketball coach at the University of Georgia from 1938 to 1946 and at Dartmouth College from 1946 to 1950, tallying a career college basketball mark of 123–136. He served as the head football coach at Carleton College from 1932 to 1933 and at Carroll College—now Carroll University—in Waukesha, Wisconsin from 1934 to 1937.

John W. Hancock was an American football player, track and field athlete, coach of football, basketball, track, and wrestling, and college athletics administrator. He played college football at the University of Iowa.

Martin Paul Below was an American football player. He played at the tackle for the Wisconsin Badgers football team and was selected as a consensus All-American in 1923. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988.

Stanley Muirhead American football player

Stanley Nelson Muirhead was an American football player. He played at the tackle position for the University of Michigan from 1921 to 1923, leading the Wolverines to consecutive undefeated seasons in 1922 and 1923 and a national championship in 1923. He was selected as a second-team All-American in both 1922 and 1923. Muirhead also played professional football in 1924 for the Dayton Triangles and Cleveland Bulldogs and was selected as a first-team All-NFL player.

Boni Eli Petcoff was an American football tackle and coach. He was born in Bulgaria and came to the United States at age six. He played college football at Ohio State and in the National Football League (NFL) with the Columbus Tigers from 1924 to 1926. He was selected as a first-team tackle on the 1924 All-Pro Team. He was the head coach of the University of Toledo from 1926 to 1929. After retiring from football, he was a physician. He died in 1965 at age 65.

James Willard McMillen was a professional American football player who played guard for seven seasons for the Chicago Bears beginning in 1924. He was born in Grayslake, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois where he was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity and an All-American in 1922.

Adolph Joseph Bieberstein was an American football guard who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Green Bay Packers and the Racine Tornadoes. Bieberstein played college football at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He played one season in the NFL before retiring after the 1926 season.

George Abramson American football player

George Abramson was a guard, tackle, and kicker in the National Football League who played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Green Bay Packers. He was born in Eveleth, Minnesota.

Jack Blott American football player and coach

Jack Leonard Blott was an All-American football center and place kicker for the University of Michigan Wolverines from 1922–1923. He was also a baseball catcher for the Wolverines from 1922–1924. After a two-game Major League Baseball career with the Cincinnati Reds in 1924, he worked as Michigan’s line coach from 1924–1933 and 1946–1958. From 1934–1940, he was the head football coach at Wesleyan University.

William George Young was a guard in the National Football League (NFL) who played for the Green Bay Packers. Young played his college football at the Ohio State University and played two professional games with the Green Bay Packers in 1929.

Ralph LeClair Claypool was a professional American football (NFL) offensive lineman in the National Football League. He played four seasons for the Chicago Cardinals (1925–1928).

Harry Hallworth "Hoge" Workman was a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball and a player-coach in the National Football League. Listed at 5' 11", 170 lb., Workman batted and threw right-handed. A native of Huntington, West Virginia, he attended Ohio State University.

Irwin Uteritz American football and baseball player and coach

Irwin Charles "Utz" Uteritz was an American athlete and coach. He played American football and baseball for the University of Michigan from 1921 to 1923. At 140 pounds, he was one of the lightest quarterbacks ever to start for a major college program. Despite his size, Michigan football coach Fielding H. Yost called him "the best field general I ever had." Uteritz led Michigan to back-to-back undefeated seasons and a national championship in 1923. He also played three years of baseball for Michigan at second base and shortstop, hit above .300 and was elected as captain of the 1923 baseball team. Uteritz later served as a football and baseball coach at Northwestern University (1924–1925), the University of Wisconsin (1925–1935), the University of California (1935–1947), and Washington University in St. Louis (1947–1963).
