The 1939 Star World Championship was held in Kiel, Germany in 1939, organised by Yacht-Club von Deutschland and Norddeutscher Regatta Verein. [1]

Contents

The championship regatta started on Sunday 20 August 1939. [2] Walter von Hütschler and Edgar Beyn were the winners when the racing concluded the Friday after. [1] [3]

Events

21 teams from 8 nations were present. [1] Swedish boat Unn was sailed by Arvid Laurin and Alban Verne. [2]

von Hütschler won the first race on Monday 21 August. [4]

The crew of the Dutch boat Bem II, Henny Scholtz, was sent home for military duty and replaced. [1] On Thursday 24 August, Dutch, French, and British crews were notified to return home by their consulates. [1]

    The Neenah Nodaway Yacht Club (NNYC), based in Neenah, Wisconsin, was established in 1864, making it one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country. NNYC participates in Lake Winnebago events, helping to support the Fox Valley Sailing School and many other community events. NNYC was formed to accomplish several goals:

    The Twelve Foot Dinghy was designed by George Cockshott, an amateur boat designer from Southport, England in response to a 1912 design contest. It became the first one-design racing dinghy to achieve international recognition.     The Star World Championship are international sailing regattas in the Star class organized by the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association and sanctioned by World Sailing.

    Anton Carl Diderik Dahlberg is a Swedish sailor, who specializes in the 470 class, a two-person dinghy. He has represented Sweden, along with his partner Sebastian Östling, in two editions of the Olympic Games, and with Fredrik Bergström in 2016 and 2020, winning an Olympic silver in 2020. He has been representing the Royal Swedish Yacht Club throughout most of his career.

    The Star European Championships are international sailing regattas in the Star class. The championships are open to sailors of all nationalities.

    Carl Fredrik Bergström is a Swedish competitive sailor. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the men's 470, where he, with partner Anton Dahlberg, finished in 6th place. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, he and Dahlberg won a silver medal in the men's 470.
