The Star European Championships are international sailing regattas in the Star class. The championships are open to sailors of all nationalities.
Most titles have Agostino Straulino and Nicolò Rode, with ten titles each, of whom nine were together.
Harry Gale Nye Jr. was a Chicago-born American industrialist, entrepreneur, and world champion sailor. He graduated from the Berkshire School and joined the class of 1933 at Yale University where he was a member of the Society of Book and Snake. Nye, a descendant of the Yale family whose gift founded the university, left Yale prior to his graduation upon his father's death in order to return home to Chicago to become president of the Nye Tool and Machine Works. The Nye Tool had been the plaintiff in a patent infringement case heard by the United States Supreme Court in 1923.
The 470 World Championships have been held every year since 1970 and organised by the International 470 Class Association and recognized by the International Sailing Federation. When the Championship forms part of the ISAF Sailing World Championships the ISAF also organise the event. The 470 is a sailboat class used as equipment for the Olympic Sailing Competition.

Sune Evert Carlsson is a Swedish Olympic sailor in the Star class and boatbuilder. He competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics, where he finished 10th in the Star class together with Per-Olof Carlsson and won a silver medal at the 1977 Star World Championships together with Leif Carlsson.

The Soling European Championship is an International sailing regatta in the Soling organized by the International Soling Association under auspiciën of World Sailing. Over 50 Soling European Championship were held. The popularity grew during the Olympic period of the Soling. After that era the event continued and is still reasonable successful. The Soling European Championship is an "Open" event. This means that competitors from all over the world are eligible to enter.
Optimist World Championship are annual World Championship sailing regattas in the Optimist class organised by the International Optimist Dinghy Association.
Johann "Hans" Spitzauer is an Austrian former sailor, who specialized in both Finn and Star classes. He was named the country's top Finn sailor in the first three editions of his Olympic career and came closest to the medal haul in Atlanta 1996, finishing in fourth place. After missing out his Sydney 2000 bid, he moved into the Star class and eventually partnered with Andreas Hanakamp to compete at his fourth Olympics in Athens 2004 and with Christian Nehammer at his fifth in Beijing 2008. Outside the Games, Spitzauer was deemed one of the world's most successful Finn sailors in the early to mid-1990s, receiving a complete set of medals with one in each color at the Finn Gold Cup and the Finn European Championships, respectively.
