The Regina Pats are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Founded in 1917, the Pats are the world's oldest continuously operating major junior hockey franchise in its original location and using its original name. The team was originally named the Regina Patricia Hockey Club, after Princess Patricia of Connaught, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria and daughter of the Governor General, the Duke of Connaught. The team name also associates Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry–Pats sweaters bear the regimental badge and "PPCLI" flash as a shoulder patch.
The Gatineau Olympiques are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Gatineau, Quebec, that plays in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Starting with the 2021–22 season, the Olympiques play home games at Centre Slush Puppie, having previously played at the Robert Guertin Centre dating back to its beginnings in the Central Junior A Hockey League. The club, then known as the Hull Festivals, was granted membership in the QMJHL in 1973. The Olympiques have appeared in the Memorial Cup seven times, winning the 1997 Memorial Cup.
Joseph Jean-Paul Robert Rousseau is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger who played in the National Hockey League (NHL), most notably for the Montreal Canadiens. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1962 as NHL Rookie of the Year.

The Eastern Canada champions were scheduled to play the Western Canada champions for the Memorial Cup in a two-game, total goal series, to be held at Shea's Amphitheatre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association decided to save money, to have the George Richardson Memorial Trophy winners Toronto Aura Lee play the Fort William War Veterans en route to Winnipeg, rather than have Fort William play the Abbott Cup champions Regina Pats of the South Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Fort William defeated Aura Lee 5–3 in the sudden death playoff game. Fort William later won their 1st Memorial Cup, defeating Regina 8 goals to 7.
