Burnaby is a city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada. Located in the centre of the Burrard Peninsula, it neighbours the City of Vancouver to the west, the District of North Vancouver across the confluence of the Burrard Inlet with its Indian Arm to the north, Port Moody and Coquitlam to the east, New Westminster and Surrey across the Fraser River to the southeast, and Richmond on the Lulu Island to the southwest.
The Pacific Coast Soccer League is an amateur soccer league, currently featuring teams from British Columbia. In the past, clubs from Washington and Oregon have competed.
MathChallengers is the former Mathcounts in British Columbia. It is open to all grade 8, 9, and 10 students from British Columbia. Lochdale is a single-family neighbourhood in the north-eastern part of Burnaby, near Burnaby Mountain. It lies between Kensington Ave to the west and Duthie Ave to the east. Hastings Street marks its northern limits while Halifax Street closes the rectangle in the south. Additionally, a large hillside residential area between Burnaby Mountain Parkway and Greystone Drive also belongs to Lochdale. Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23, formerly known as Whitecaps FC Reserves, was a Canadian soccer team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Although founded in 2005 as part of the development system for the Vancouver Whitecaps USL First Division franchise, beginning in 2011 they became part of the development system for Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The team played in the Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference.
The R4 41st Ave is an express bus route with bus rapid transit elements in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Shrum Bowl was a university rivalry game played between the gridiron football teams of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds and the Simon Fraser University (SFU) Red Leafs. The game was named after Gordon Shrum who was a professor and later a dean at UBC from 1925 to 1961 and served as the first chancellor of SFU from 1964 to 1968. It was a cross-town rivalry with UBC being located in the University Endowment Lands just west of Vancouver, British Columbia, and SFU located approximately 30 kilometres away in Burnaby, British Columbia.
UBC Old Boys Ravens is a Canadian rugby union team based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Founded in 1974, Ravens was formed by graduates from the University of British Columbia. The club currently competes in, and is the two-time defending champion of, the British Columbia Premier Rugby League.
The 1982 Air Canada Cup was Canada's fourth annual national midget 'AAA' hockey championship, which was played April 13 – 18, 1982 at the Memorial Arena in Victoria, British Columbia. The Burnaby Winter Club Travellers defeated the Gouverneurs de Ste-Foy, who were led by future Hall of Famer Patrick Roy in goal, to win the gold medal. The bronze medal game between the Cape Breton Colonels and the South Ottawa Warriors ended in a 5-5 tie. Burnaby's Cliff Ronning led the tournament in scoring and was named Most Valuable Player.
The UBC Thunderbirds football team represents the University of British Columbia athletics teams in U Sports and is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Thunderbirds program has won the CWUAA Hardy Trophy conference championship 16 times, which is third all-time among competing teams. On a national level, the team has won the Vanier Cup championship four times, in 1982, 1986, 1997 and, most recently, in 2015. The team has also lost twice in the title game, in 1978 and 1987. The Thunderbirds program has also yielded three Hec Crighton Trophy winners: Jordan Gagner in 1987, Mark Nohra in 1997, and, most recently, Billy Greene in 2011.
The Simon Fraser Red Leafs men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. The Red Leafs at the Bill Copeland Arena and is coached by Mark Coletta. The Red Leafs ice hockey team competes in the BCIHL, as well as playing NCAA competition every year. After announcing their intent to explore full-time NCAA Division 1 status in 2016, the SFU Men's hockey program would play NCAA Div.1 games under probationary status for the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons.
The University of British Columbia's (UBC) Point Grey Campus is the main campus of the university. It is located on the Point Grey peninsula in British Columbia, Canada. It is home to close to 55,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Pacific Coast Soccer League was an amateur and briefly semi-professional soccer league in Canada. The league had several incarnations from 1908 to 1973 before it merged with the Mainland Senior Soccer League and the Intercity Junior League after the 1972–73 season to form the British Columbia Senior Soccer League. While the league predominantly featured teams from Vancouver's mainland and Vancouver Island, it also featured a team from Seattle, United States for two years.
The 2011 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship was held March 4, 2011 to March 6, 2011, in Quebec City, Quebec, to determine a national champion for the 2010–11 CIS women's volleyball season. The tournament was played at PEPS at Université Laval. It was the sixth time that Laval had hosted the tournament and the first time since hosting back-to-back tournaments in 2002 and 2003.
Marine Drive is the name for three major roadways in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The roads are known for running parallel to major bodies of water, with some sections being a major arterial road, while other serve local traffic. Marine Way is the name applied to a section of Marine Drive that was bypassed in the early 1980s.
