The 1972 FIBA Intercontinental Cup of National Teams was a special edition tournament of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, and the 6th edition of the tournament overall. It took place at Ginásio do Ibirapuera, São Paulo, Brazil. [1]

The FIBA Intercontinental Cup, also commonly referred to as the FIBA World Cup for Champion Clubs, or the FIBA Club World Cup, is a professional basketball competition that is endorsed by FIBA World and the NBA. Historically, its purpose has been to gather the premier basketball clubs from each of the world's geographical zones, and to officially decide the best basketball club of the world, which is officially crowned as the world club champion. The World Cup for Clubs has been contended mainly by the champions of the continents and/or world geographical regions that are of the highest basketball levels.

Ginásio do Ibirapuera

Ginásio do Ibirapuera is an indoor sporting arena located in São Paulo, Brazil. The seating capacity of the arena is 11,000 people and it was opened on 25 January 1957. Named after famous sports broadcaster and sports commentator Geraldo José de Almeida, in 2004, 2005 and 2006 Ginásio do Ibirapuera hosted the Salonpas Cup matches, and in 2006, the arena hosted the Basketball World Championship for Women. Other notable basketball events include the 1973 Intercontinental Cup, the 1979 edition of the competition in which local E.C. Sírio won the title after a memorable win over Bosna Sarajevo, and the 1984 edition of the same competition in which Banco Roma won the title.

The 2013 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 23rd edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup for men's professional basketball clubs and the 22nd edition of the tournament being in the form of a true intercontinental tournament for clubs. The 2 game aggregate score tournament took place at the Ginásio José Corrêa arena in Barueri, São Paulo, Brazil, on October 4 and October 6, 2013, in order to determine the world club champion. The tournament was contested between the 2012–13 season EuroLeague champions, Olympiacos, and the 2013 FIBA Americas League champions, Pinheiros Sky.

The men's qualification for the Olympic basketball tournament occurred from 2014 to 2016; all five FIBA zones sent in teams.

2015 FIBA Intercontinental Cup

The 2015 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 25th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The series, played with two legs, was played by EuroLeague champions Real Madrid, and FIBA Americas League champions Bauru. Both games were played in the Ginásio do Ibirapuera, based in São Paulo. The first leg was played on September 25, the second one on September 27.

The 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 28th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament took place from 15 to 17 February 2019. The tournament was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the Carioca Arena 1.

The 1965 FIBA Intercontinental Cup Test Tournament was the test edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The game was contested by the 1964 South American Championship of Champions Clubs champions, S.C. Corinthians Paulista, and the 1965 FIBA European Champions Cup (EuroLeague) champions, Real Madrid.
