On April 9, the Weathermakers faced the Noritake Porcelainmakers in the inaugural double-header of the PBA at the Araneta Coliseum with a sellout crowd of 18,000 watching, the Carrier Weathermakers lost the game with a score of 101–98. Gregorio "Joy" Dionisio scored the very first basket in PBA history. [1]
The Weathermakers struggled throughout the First Conference hovering around a .500 record, they missed the playoffs entirely and finished as the 5th seed. In the Second Conference, they struggled even more and finished with a disappointing 6–15 record and missed the playoffs again.
Lim Eng Beng, Gregorio Dionisio, and Ramon Lucindo were all selected to participate in the PBA Ovaltine dream games.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines composed of twelve company-branded franchised teams. Founded in 1975, it is the first professional basketball league in Asia and is the second oldest continuously professional basketball league existing in the world after the NBA, established before the "open era" of basketball in 1990 where FIBA allowed longstanding domestic leagues, which mostly had predated the PBA, to become professional. The league's regulations are a hybrid of rules from the NBA and FIBA.

Daniel Charles Seigle is a Filipino-American basketball coach and retired player. He is the head coach of the De La Salle Green Archers men's basketball team and a team consultant for the San Miguel Alab Pilipinas of the ASEAN Basketball League. He last played for the TNT KaTropa of the Philippine Basketball Association. He won the 1999 PBA Rookie of the Year and led San Miguel to six championships during his career. He is also a two-time member of the Philippine national basketball team.
James Carlos Agravante Yap Sr. is a Filipino professional basketball player for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known by his nickname Big Game James, he had played for the Star Hotshots for twelve seasons winning seven PBA championships before being traded on 2016. He is also a 16-time PBA All-Star through 2004 to 2019, all as Starter.

Gregorio began his PBA coaching career with the Purefoods TJ Giants in 2002 on an acting capacity and won his first PBA Championship on the same year at the age of 29. He was also a former player and coach (2001) of the UP Fighting Maroons in the UAAP, before coaching in the pro league. He is a three-time PBA Champion Coach, a 4-time PBA All-Star Coach and a three-time PBA Coach of the Year awardee. He is one of the four PBA coaches who won at least 3 COY accolades. He is also the first and only coach in the league history to win a championship as an interim coach in 2002. Gregorio is a graduate of the University of the Philippines with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Major in Film and Audio-Visual Communication.

Danilo Ildefonso is a Filipino former professional basketball player. He is currently an assistant coach for both the Converge FiberXers of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the NU Bulldogs of the UAAP. Nicknamed "Danny I", "The Demolition Man" and "Lakáy", Ildefonso is a two-time PBA Most Valuable Player in 2000 and 2001 and is one of the four players to win the said award on back-to-back seasons, along with Bogs Adornado, Alvin Patrimonio, and June Mar Fajardo. He also one of the few PBA players to have won all three major MVP awards in the league: regular season, finals, and all-star game MVP. He was picked 1st overall in the 1998 PBA draft and the 2014 PBA Expansion Draft, becoming the only player in the PBA to be drafted first-overall two times and being drafted first-overall in the draft and the expansion draft.
