The 1980 St. John's Redmen baseball team represented the St. John's University in the 1980 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Redmen played their home games at Redman Field. The team was coached by Joe Russo in his 7th year at St. John's.

Contents

The Redmen won the Northeast Regional to advance to the College World Series, where they went 1-2 and were eliminated by the California Golden Bears.

The St. John's Red Storm is the nickname used for the 17 varsity athletic programs of St. John's University, in the U.S. state of New York. St. John's 17 NCAA Division I teams compete in the Big East Conference, with the exception of the fencing team, which compete in the ECAC. On December 15, 2012, St. John's and the other six Catholic, non-FBS schools announced that they were departing the former Big East for a new conference. The "Catholic 7", after purchasing the "Big East" name from the FBS schools and adding Butler, Creighton, and Xavier, began operating as the new Big East Conference beginning in July 2013.

The Red Storm's best finish in the NCAA tournament came in 1952 when they were NCAA runner-ups and made the Final Four. St. John's also made a Final Four appearance in 1985. St. John's is coached by Rick Pitino.

The 1985 Big East baseball tournament was held at Muzzy Field in Bristol, Connecticut. This was the inaugural Big East baseball tournament, and was won by the St. John's Redmen. As a result, St. John's earned the Big East Conference's automatic bid to the 1985 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

The 1980 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1980 NCAA Division I baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its thirty fourth year. Eight regional competitions were held to determine the participants in the final event. Seven regions held a four team, double-elimination tournament while one region included six teams, resulting in 34 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament. The thirty-fourth tournament's champion was Arizona, coached by Jerry Kindall. The Most Outstanding Player was Terry Francona of the Arizona.

The 2012 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, June 1, 2012, as part of the 2012 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 team double elimination tournament concluded with the 2012 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, starting on June 15 and ending on June 25.

The 1980 Arizona Wildcats baseball team represented the University of Arizona in the 1980 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Wildcats played their home games at Wildcat Field. The team was coached by Jerry Kindall in his 8th season at Arizona. The Wildcats finished with a record of 45-21-1 and 17–13 in conference play, finishing tied for 1st in the "Six-Pac". This was the Wildcats' 1st Pacific-10 Conference championship. Arizona advanced to the postseason for the 3rd straight season and was selected to host the West Regional at Wildcat Field. The Wildcats defeated Fresno State in their 1st game before defeating Gonzaga twice to advance to the College World Series for the 2nd straight season. After losing their 1st game in Omaha, Nebraska to St. John's, Arizona won the next 4 against Florida State, Michigan, Hawaii and California to advance to the final game: a rematch against Hawaii. The Wildcats defeated Hawaii 5–3 to win their 2nd National Championship.

The fourth seeded St. John's Redmen won their fourth tournament championship and claimed the Big East Conference's automatic bid to the 1993 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

Bob Malvagna in an American college baseball coach and former player. Malvanga played college baseball at St. John's University from 1975 to 1979 for head coach Joe Russo. He served as head baseball coach for the New York Institute of Technology from 2013 to 2018.
